Are you referring to actually getting the "Paper" version of the news??  Or reading something like ChicagoTribune.com or Chicagonews.com or something?!

that kinda stuff isnt in newspapers in canada....even if it was its one of the reasons why i dont follow the news too close...everythign is doom and gloom these days and i refuse to be led about by the nose in fear and distrust

as for where my tax money goes....it goes to schools, roads, healthcare, and government wallets...i dont need a paper to tell me that....

do you guys down south of the border really have a section outlining the local drug deals and child molestors? quite sad dont ya think to always have that kinda stuff lodged in the back of your brain? seems everytime you would turn around you wouldnt be able to trust anything about anyone...that my freind is fear...terrorism if you will, not to be able to feel safe in your own country

Call it fear if you want to be pessimistic, I call it power. Knowledge is power, to know about things that affect you directly. Ignorance is frankly what most governments would rather you choose, so kudos to you being a good little sheep.

Of course you know who uses your money, but how? What are your community lawmakers doing with it?

Yes, I know about arrests in my area. It's called the police blotter.

Yes, online or the paper. Most people are lazy and won't get that info online themselves, know where to look or how. Is someone gonna go through the trouble of requesting an FOIA request if they can't find what they're looking for. I just did that at my local village hall. Not everything can be found online. Podunk governments don't always do that.

haha...well good on you for reading the news that your gov't allows to be published tongue

has a drug dealer or child molestor ever affected you directly? you dont have to answer it was a rhetorical question...personally i'm not one to chat it up with or let my kids hang out with someone i dont know...i dont even talk with my neighbors other than to exchange a freindly hello when i see them

Well I was referring to the actual "papers". They need to aim to get a lockdown on being the first local news site people goto. Their biggest competition is probably the TV stations local channel sites, then any independant local city websites. I think a big threat to them however is also local forums. That is a great way to find out where local petty crimes, drug activity etc is found from. In addition good nearby resturant reviews etc, because it's straight from the horses mouth. The people who live there. Also, it's interactive, web2.0 so ppl can participate too.

Newspapers can evolve into a much visited website, if they manage to stay ahead of the game. But I think the "paper" part of it is dying out & won't be returning.

Frankly I'm shocked as a fellow father and homeowner that these things don't interest you. Won't get it on TV or internet, but newspapers, the more local the better.

It's good to know what your PM is doing, but the decisions that really affect you are made on the local level.

He's Canadian Bri. That stuff doesn't happen as much or as bad up there. 16

i dont even know what you guys are talking about to be honest...why would my kid's school funding be any different than all school funding? maybe you dont understand that we pay tax dollars to the gov't for infrastructure up here, education, medical, road work?

a big kiddie porn ring was just busted up toronto way but as for sexual predators in my neighborhood...newspapers dont have little maps or whatever...i'd like to see a sample of this molestor section in your newspapers 16 drug dealers? there are drug dealers everywhere....what does a newspaper in the states have a classified section for kiddie porn and drug vendors?

...any time i read a local paper its all bout the wars and deaths over seas and shit....maybe i should mail you one of my local papers bri and you could see how stimulating it is to read 14

but no i dont follow you at all as to what you are trying to get at... hmm
