The first evidence of the next Superman movie actually happening and remaining a sequel to Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns has surfaced, complete with title change…

Last we heard of Superman, the Wachowskis had been offered it (turned out that rumor was false) and it was a reboot. Along the way, we found Mark Millar’s inventive idea for a Superman trilogy and thought it was going to be called Man Of Steel.

Turns out no one had it right until /Film did some poking:

…reader Alex L just sent me a link to a password protected page from the official Legendary Pictures website that lists “Superman Unleashed” as one of their upcoming films in development. The temporary plot synopsis included follows:

The verdict? DC, Legendary and Warner Bros are going to make a Superman sequel, it’s working title is Superman Unleashed (though I hope this is the real attitude of the damn thing) and it exists in the Returns universe.

This is great news. I'm a huge fan of Superman Returns. I think it's incredibly underappreciated and was genuinely insulted at the prospect of a relaunch to this franchise. Even if you didn't like Superman Returns, it's time for a new Superman flick and they may as well continue in the current continuity. Too many "reboots" these days. This should keep the fanboys happy while waiting for Christopher Nolan's next Batman opus.

Batman is it for me.

I don't dig superhero movies outside of it, unless in some faint way, someone might consider RoboCop a superhero.

I tried to death to get into the original Superman franchise, and just couldn't at all. I never bothered to watch Returns.

But you like RoboCop, one of my absolute favorite movies of all time, so all is right with the world.

All yeah. Love anything Robo. The original is an all-time classic, and even though I wouldn't want to admit it in a crowd of people... the sequels are total guilty pleasures for me too.

Agreed, especially RoboCop 2. I'd still love to see Frank Miller's R-rated vision for RoboCop 3 brought to life.

God damn, yes. I remember when I first saw RC3, and thought... Miller did this? Somebody had to of raped him upstairs at Orion.

I know reboots are a lame fad in Hollywood but that's what Superman needs, not another rehash of the 1978 classic. Leave that continuity alone out of respect to Chris Reeve. Superman Returns is one of my most hated comic book movies of all time and it's hard for me to be disappointed in anything Superman-related being a die-hard fan of the character.

^ Me too. I love the superman concept. But the very reason I loved the new batman films is the reason I couldn't get into superman returns. I feel these new batman movies are written by people that understand the characters very well, and that's NOT the case with this superman movie. There are a couple of things in it specificlly that just don't add up to characters from superman to me.

But i'll be interested to check out another movie.

Superman Returns was really really boring and the characters had no charm, very disapointing. The original and part 2 are still good fun today.

Superman 2, the theatrical cut, is the best Superman movie to date.
