Definitely the album. James really has a strange taste in music for a GN'R fan. I think he's more of a pop-dance music fan that just happens to like GN'R, and not the other way around.
The music he (?) likes tends to appeal more to females or gay men. I'm not trying to stereotype, but GN'R & M.I.A.? Seriously? GN'R & Beyonce? He's definitely unique. 
I dont' care what any of you think.This is an epic performance.
I have total respect for people that have enough confidence and a sense of humor to do something like that for the whole world to see. Props to that guy.

I'm older. My tastes changed. My youth was spent in a meth haze fucking teenage girls while listening to Slayer, White Zombie, Soundgarden,etc. I have ALWAYS had a wide range of musical taste, even as a child. When I got into M.I.A., XEO3,etc, back in 2006, I started giving techno/hip hop/R&B more of a chance than I used to, and most new music I listen to nowadays is in those genres.
By the way, I stick out like a sore thumb at M.I.A. shows. Its a bunch of gay guys and young chicks, and there I am in my mid 30s looking like a biker from the late 70s/early 80s sent to the future just to be at that show.

Don't worry, the gay men just think you're "Halford-influenced". 
As for your tastes, it is interesting. I certaintly have found certain "old rockers" that find themselves digging newer artists. I know one guy, that's kind of an old timer, that really digs Kanye. I don't get it. But he's not a fan of bands like GN'R or Metallica. He's more of a Jethro Tull, Grateful Dead, Rolling Stones, Styx kind of guy.
I'm pretty dedicated to rock-metal, it'll be interesting to see if my musical tastes change as I get older.

Believe me, I am in shock as well at my drastic change in taste in music. Always had a broad scope(Slayer, Barry Manilow, Bob Marley, Hank Williams Jr., list goes on), but I do gravitate towards R&B and techno/new wave influenced shit now.
Had someone told me 4 years ago I would be listening to no new rock but instead M.I.A., Santogold, XEO3, Christina Milian, Rye Rye, Goldfrapp, Winehouse,Rihanna, etc. I would have requested they seek a psychological evaluation.
Only rock I listen to are my fave albums from years ago, and of course when bands like GNR, U2,etc. release something new.

I listen to everything...but Rock is where my true love lies...but I can listen to pop stuff and get things out of it. Like i actaually think the hook in this song is kinda cool...even though its not the style I dig overall.

It's not really that surprising really if you look at your past music tastes and what they did. They all did something original in their day. There's not that much new rock that's doing anything original.
But your new found interests are the ones doing something fresh and (sometimes) original. A couple years ago I wouldn't have thought that my musical tastes would have changed to what they are now either.

you can't be that old if you were listening to white zombie and soundgarden. how old are you? just curious...
