I would recommend part II as an introduction to the franchise. While III and IV are excellent, Jason is already an iconic 'anti-hero' at that point. Not the full on anti-hero he became in VI, but he's heading in that direction because moviegoers were already cheering for him.

He will never be creepier and more realistic than he was in II. There's probably a ton of people out there who have only watched the later films with the hockey mask center stage, and to quote Mr. T, "I pity the fools".

I agree with you that he was never creepier than in Part II. The potato sack is totally underrated. I think he gets a lot of that creepiness back in the new movie. I also liked the quick-footed, psychopathic hillbilly of Part III. Especially the scenes sans hockey mask.

LOL, I think they're all laughably bad. Like Bono, I thought they were pretty cool/scary when I was in elementary school, but it didn't take long for me to realize how cliched the movies were.

Bono, movies in general have much better production values than those made back in the 1980's, especially on such small budgets like the typical slasher film.

Oh really? 16 No kidding.

I'm just sayin'. 16 It makes sense. Nicer technology is much cheaper today than it was back then. Hell, I would think filming with a basic high def camera from Best Buy is better than the crap they were using back in the 80's. The lighting, etc. is bound to be better today. And of course, visual effects have gotten much better over the years thanks to computers.

Well  just saw it and I have to say it's the best Jason movie yet. But like I said that wasn't going to be a hard feat to accomplish. Visually it a much better movie than anything in the past. The atmosphere is better, the music is better, the lead actor and actresses are better.

I liked how it is a reboot of the series and not just part 11 or 12. I agree the potato sack is creepy but I love the goalie mask. To be honest I never found the potato sack creepy in Part II. It looked cheesey but in the new one they manage to pull it off much better.

Unfortunately I don't see how they can ever really make an amazing Jason movie. I love the character but where can it really go besides killing off unsuspecting teens?

I thought they did a good job on this one at least having a  story(brother searches for sister) and I thought it was cool that Jason kept a prisoner but really it's the same old same old story where one by one the idiots seperate themselves from the group only to picked off one at a time.  I mean c'mon give us a scene where 3 dudes take on Jason and have him bull rush them and make it a scene where Jason is fighting for his life and not the other way around.

Another thing I'd like to see is  more creative ways off killing people. I mean it's too much fo the same. Slash to the throat, stab through the chest etc. etc. I did like the part when he hung the girl in her sleeping bag over top the camp fire and let her burn to death. That was fucking cool and had a real intense feel to it. Like holy shit this guy is a psycho not just a  killer.

All in all though I liked it. It was what I expected. The same Jason but a much better looking and creepier movie than past Jason movies. Only problem is it did look alot like the TCM at times. It lost a bit of it's creepy factor cause we've seen it before but it added a new dimension to Jason's character.

He's actually a resident of Crystal lake and not a dude hanging out in the bush. I liked seeing his home and his underground lair.

One big problem I had though was when the girl got hit by the boat, her head was bleeding bad and obviously she had a gash on her head yet after she swims to the dock her head looks fine? That's pure amateur shit for the movie makers to miss that. Gimme a break

Give me the reigns to the franchise and I'll give it somewhere to go. I'd turn it into a First Blood style movie where you actually do sympathize with his character, at least until he reaches the point of no return.

Axlin08 I think it is a total reboot. It's not just part 12 or whatever. Basically they take the events of 1-3 and throw them into this movie.  F13 movies were never award winning movies. They aren't Oscar nominated best pictures so I don't see the point in comparing the new one to the old ones as if the old ones were. The new movie uses the same premis as the old ones but it looks better which makes it better by default.  It's the same movie but more appealing visiually. Plus the music/score is better than the old ones. It is what it is man nothing more, nothing less. I think if you're letdown by it you really expected it to be something it never was to begin with.

I do agree though the lack of original kills was dissapointing. I hated the boat scene. It was cool buddy got shot with an arrow but when she survived the boat driving over her head and then had no marks to show for it I was mad. Just mad at the stupidity of it. The boat would've killed her first off and then for her to have the gash on her head dissapear completely. Fucking amatuer. What I'll disagree with though is the sleeping bag scene. That was cool. Especially with buddy caught in the bear trap about 20 meters away watching it unfold. That part was intense I think. I mean that'd be a scary way to die for that girl unlike the other ways where they were all basically just stabbed.

And yeah I'll admit it would 've been nice to see a bit more of Jason going about his business in his lair when he had Whitney held captive.

If they were to ever take it in a direction like James suggested and start it all over from scratch that'd be sweet but at this point the goalie mask is so fucking marketable I can't see it happening.
