Re: Jason Lives: FRIDAY THE 13TH
I know alot of people did the exact same thing with TCM2003, a fair film also, simply because they were desperate to forget the Jason-ized 'Leatherface' & abysmal 'Next Generation', they over-promoted how good TCM2003 was. Yet only a few years after, many do not sing it's praises, but when it first came out they did. I'm wondering if F132009 will be the same.
I think that's probably what will happen.
Meanwhile, given our conversation earlier this thread...you have got to give me the lowdown on Amanda Righetti's role. Does she get nekkid or at least scantily clad?
Re: Jason Lives: FRIDAY THE 13TH
Axlin08, thanks for posting those new box office tracking numbers. The funny thing is, going into the weekend most analysts predicted a $15-20 million debut. The strength of this genre and its fanbase has proved them wrong again. What I ask everyone now is this: even if you weren't crazy about this new movie, express that within horror circles but support it elsewhere. We need to show them that there's an audience for real, adult horror. Not torture porn only and definately not the J-horror remake shit. I'm excited by all of this and my hope right now is that this crushes at least the grosses of TCM03 and FvJ.

So Jason or Leatherface slaughtering a bunch of random people in a R-rated gory movie isn't considered torture porn?

Amanda doesn't have one of those kind of roles.

Even though I think the film is 'so so', I certaintly am proud to basically see F13-Part XII basically turn in the BIGGEST box office opening of any of the films. Certaintly says something that even F13 sequels are still profitable after 30 years, and that a full on remake is unnecessary, unlike Halloween and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
I will say this, regardless of the film's overall end product, it certainly stayed the truest to the original franchise of them all, even though I did feel it was a bit Texas The 13th.

Well shit, if there's no Amanda skin involved, I'm afraid I'll just have to rent it from Netflix. Not worth the trip to the theater otherwise.
Re: Jason Lives: FRIDAY THE 13TH
I'm not a horror expert like you guys but the old movies, as much as I love them, really do suck. I mean it won't take much to make this version better than all previous versions be it 1 through 11(FvJ). I love the old Jason movies based on nostalgia. I can't for the life of me look back and say those movies are any good whatsoever. I watched part I and II last night and it was fun cause I remeber them being badass as a kid but I laughed at how terrible they are more than anything. I get a kick out of them cause I liked them when I was in grades 3 through 9. Anything done these days in relation to the Friday the 13th franchise is way better in my mind. FvJ was better than all the Friday the 13th movies. Granted it was more action/comedy than a horror movie but it was just better.
I'm going to a matinee tomorrow for F13 and I have no doubt in my mind it will be the best one yet based on production value and cinematography alone. Not to mention the acting no matter how bad will be better than any of the acting done in the previous installments. Hell the trailer for this movie is better than all the previous Jason movie
I think there's alot of people going to see this who have never seen a single Friday the 13th movie. My brother's girlfriend has never seen one and she's 21. There's alot of people her age who never grew up with this stuff and have never seen it. Now for those of you who have seen the new one tell me this and be honest. If you wanted to turn a new generation of kids onto Friday the 13th what would you recomend? Part III, or IV? No way you'd likely recomend the new one. I think alot of the knocks on the new one(even though I haven't seen it yet) are based on your nostalgia bias. None of us are afraid of Jason anymore so in a way no new Friday the 13th movie will ever be as good as the ones we watched as kids but for a new generation this new version kicks the crap outta the old ones and I say that with confidence even though I haven't seen it yet.
I'll post my thoughts tomorrow after seeing it only to reaffirm my opinion on this.

Re: Jason Lives: FRIDAY THE 13TH
Bono, movies in general have much better production values than those made back in the 1980's, especially on such small budgets like the typical slasher film.
