Re: Grammy Awards.
The only thing that sustains them currently is stuff they can market to the only people buying. The point is, I don't have to like that stuff and I certainly don't have to pay attention to it. I don't think that makes me "sad" or "old" because I know what I like to hear.
You don't have to like it and you don't have to pay attention to it, you just need to stop bitching about it and quietly reserve yourself to the fact that this music isn't being made for you. That's my point. Let's relate it to films. I like hardcore horror movies. I wouldn't go on and on bitching about how the cartoons on Nickelodeon or Disney aren't as cool as they were when I was younger. They're clearly not being aimed at me anymore. I have my own interests beyond that now. Harping on the current tastes of kids would make me seem...cynical and old. Clearly, the people on a Guns N' Roses fan board aren't going out in droves to purchase the latest pop music has to offer. I suspect there are very few actual Katy Perry fans here (since we're using her as an example, and although I could argue how I find her particularly talented). No, you don't have to like it. No one's forcing you to. And unless you're a 12-14 year old girl, you shouldn't feel so obligated to needlessly chime in with an opinion on it. That's what "roll with it" means.
Re: Grammy Awards.
This is a Grammy thread basically discussing who was there. Whether or not someone likes or dislikes one or several of the artists isn't "needlessly chiming in". This is a message board where people post their opinions among a group of people they are comfortable with and in most cases have known for years.
M.I.A. wipes the floor with this bitch. Is that an opinion, or a needless chime?

Re: Grammy Awards.
Hey James, you'd be pleased to know M.I.A. is finally getting commercial radio play here in Australia. They've been playing that "bang bang, and take your money" song, whatever that's called.
I'm not really into it, but it's a shitload better and more original than the other crap getting played on commercial radio here (and yes, I'm pointing my finger at shit like The Fray)
Re: Grammy Awards.
What was the deal with MIA & the Rap Pac..? I thought they weren't bad, myb would have been better solo, but did those 4 rappers do a song together? Or was that just a one of thing for the Grammy. & did they sing the MIA song, or was that just being sampled throughout their song?
Von as for Russtcb & I (and myb others) we're just voicing our opinion when people say Katy Perry is talented, I say she really isn't. Can she really be considered much different that the Pussycat Dolls "Dontcha". I'm shocked Justin Timberlake hung around like he did, but I suppose at this point (10 years later) he deserves some credit. Overall I thought the performances weren't bad, for a Grammys night. Kanye, MIA, U2, Kid Rock etc. Even Keith Urban doing Bo Didley, Adele etc. Plus they had 2 cancellations to make up for.

The thing about that though is when I was a kid the top bands were Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Radiohead, Oasis, Guns N' Roses, U2, Metallica, Smashing Pumpkins, Soul Asylum(huge for a short stretch), Counting Crows(like SA), Offspring, etc etc. They were always more popular than the crap manufactured stuff. We had bands that were easily recognizable as instant classics where as the last ten years have produced NO top 40 classic bands. What will kids look back on 10-15 years from now? Nickleback? Maybe Coldplay? Theres really nothing. Music has changed and even though I get what you're saying Von it just doesn't add up cause the music is such an after thought compared to what it used to be. Now it's about the package more than ever. The best music back in the day was popular. It's not anymore. Look back through the decades. The best music or a huge amount of the best music was always the most popular music. That changed in the mid-late 90's. That was the era where we stopped getting mass appeal classic albums.
There are very few bands that could possibly have any real staying power years from now. Off the top of my head, the only more recent band that I could see having a following a decade from now is Avenged Sevenfold. Whether you like to admit it or not, that band is very popular and they are also very talented musicians.
I almost don't even like going to concerts anymore because of the opening bands. They are usually just loads of shit. Last night I went to a A7X/Buckcherry concert, and the two opening bands were Papa Roach and Saving Abel, and both bands sounded so much a like. The only real way you could tell them apart was by how much Papa Roach swears and how they look.
There have been very few concerts that I have been to where the opening bands were really good or stood out. One was the VR concert where AIC opened for them. Then probably the only other one was the STP concert where Black Rebel Motorcycle Club opened.
At least when i saw that coheadlining tour we had Shinedown. Off the top of my head though I would say Shinedown, Avenged Sevenfold, Slipknot maybe, Alter Bridge if they stay together, Black Stone Cherry, Disturbed if their next few albums sound different, maybe Mudvayne, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Killswitch Engage.

They did a song called 'Swagga Like Us' and used a sample from Paper Planes. Had she not been pregnant, she more than likely would have performed herself instead of only being involved in that. It was an easy way for her to be involved in a performance at the Grammys without any real pressure involved in her own performance.
