But you are paying attention to it. You slamming a girl for a song that caught on with the youth of the country. She is POP. That is what pop music has been for years now. How is she a made up industry thing when she was dropped from other labels and kept trying to breakthrough to an audience for years?

I still wish the blues thing had a better sound mix because I'm sure it was much better than it sounded.
It blows my mind how often what's supposed to be the biggest gathering of musicians of the year has horrible sound, but it seems to me that it happens every year. You would think with the resources they have availiable it shouldn't be an issue.

I haven't done any Katy Perry research and don't plan to. I don't enough about her to bother.
As far as MIA goes, I was kinda hoping to hear more or Paper Planes but even though I don't like Swagga Like Us, I thought the performance was cool.

I also wish Jamie Foxx hadn't made an ass of himself during the Four Tops tribute. I didn't get the whole going off to one side of the stage by himself. Then he stood there pointing and waving at people like the whole thing was about him. Weird.
Katy Perry actually had a pretty big follow up hit after "I Kissed A Girl" with "Hot N Cold", and I think she has another single doing pretty well now. I'm not a fan of hers per se, but it seems to me like she's pretty talented. She certainly shouldn't be compared to Paris Hilton. And I'm pretty sure she wrote her own music, although I can't say that with 100% certainty. She was interviewed on Stern though and I thought I remember her saying that.

Hot N' Cold's a good tune. She's actually a talented vocalist. I find her voice appealing. From what I've gathered, she writes or co-writes the majority of her stuff. It is just pop, you know. Pop ain't going away. Just like when everyone hated the boy bands and complained if there were going to be such pop groups branded for young girls, they should at least write and play their own stuff. The Jonas Brothers do just that and still get shit on. Not everything's gonna be Sunet Strip. Not everything's gonna be Guns N' Roses. As a music journalist, I get that. While I'm not a fan of those particular artists per se, they each deserve a place within their own fanbase. Kids need music to listen to just like us. The more cynical people get about pop music, the older and sadder they seem. Just roll with it.

The thing about that though is when I was a kid the top bands were Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Radiohead, Oasis, Guns N' Roses, U2, Metallica, Smashing Pumpkins, Soul Asylum(huge for a short stretch), Counting Crows(like SA), Offspring, etc etc. They were always more popular than the crap manufactured stuff. We had bands that were easily recognizable as instant classics where as the last ten years have produced NO top 40 classic bands. What will kids look back on 10-15 years from now? Nickleback? Maybe Coldplay? Theres really nothing. Music has changed and even though I get what you're saying Von it just doesn't add up cause the music is such an after thought compared to what it used to be. Now it's about the package more than ever. The best music back in the day was popular. It's not anymore. Look back through the decades. The best music or a huge amount of the best music was always the most popular music. That changed in the mid-late 90's. That was the era where we stopped getting mass appeal classic albums.
