I listened to a few tracks. Not my cup of tea. And I personally think it isn't going to be played that much on radio. He is what 40 something? I don't see major pop stations playing this. And hopefully rock radio won't touch it.

His age does make you wonder how this will go over with this generation, but maybe he's gonna do what I suggested Axl do for years.....

Attempt to have a career like Rod Stewart in the mid/late 80s. He wasn't considered cool and no one had posters of him on their wall, but everybody was listening to those hits of his. Rod wasn't really relevant, but he catered his music to a general mainstream audience and it worked well.

Cornell looks to be doing something a bit similar.

This wont be on rock radio because it isn't rock. He isn't aiming this at his already established fan base.

I do see this getting airplay on the pop and R&B stations.

Although its not in the style I prefer, I thought track 12-14 were kinda cool. I liked "Two Drink Minimum" cos its basicly classic blues...add like Clapton or Slash or someone to that and you'd have a classic...maybe some Albert King lol.

I guess its clear for a while Cornell has been going on an artist journey away from rock...Carry On showed that too.

While I prefer his other stuff, he's still a fantastic lyricist and awesome vocalist, so i'll keep following what he does, but I'd like to see him return to a more rock flavour in the future.

People may not like the whole genre involved. All that matters though is that this is really good music. Cornell made some great music here. Great album. DAre I say pisses all over CD tongue ...maybe not

Re: Chris Cornell- Scream

So I had the misfortune of accidentally hearing a song from this album, then went through every 30-sec clip on iTunes the other day in shocked pain. Then today I happened to see Trent Reznor's Twitter status: "You know that feeling you get when somebody embarrasses themselves so badly YOU feel uncomfortable? Heard Chris Cornell's record? Jesus."

Now, I understand Cornell could be 'moving forward', but TR is not an old school rock fan - he's fairly relevant and has worked with various R&B and pop acts.

But then I see people claim that Chris NEEDS to do a reunion with Soundgarden. And while that would be cool and it won't be long before they're too old to make it work, I don't think it's necessary for him to make a good album. He just needs somebody talented. Sure, Audioslave got boring and arguably bad towards the end (I do not know their later work well enough to be sure) but that's because it was RATM guys, who were fairly locked into what they could do. Morello only has so many riffs in him. I maintain that Cornell just needs somebody good - and Timbaland ain't it.

So I looked up Euphoria Morning, an album I consider on par with Soundgarden and Audioslave's first (although very different) and the contributors are amazing. Basically he's getting backed up by the band Eleven, with writing contributions from them as well. While I'm no Eleven fan, talent is obviously there and the combination is the right amount of different to make the solo album worthwhile and enjoyable. Then Josh Freese is drumming - which is always a plus. Looking further even Jason Falkner is on one track playing bass (Jellyfish alum, power-pop artist I like).

Now that is a line-up to impress. Carry On and Scream have nothing close to this quality of contributors. Cornell needs to find some good rock/alternative players and make something, because dance music is not his game.

I think if Cornell wants to keep going with this style he needs to find someone who can make it work.  Him and Timbaland just aren't a good combo.  They don't gel well together and there's just no chemistry there.  It's sad when Chris writes some pretty good lyrics, but when backed with Timbaland's music they seem awful.  The presentation just isn't there.

I think Climbing Up the Walls is the best song on the album.  The actual album version of it sounds a lot more like a rock track, and is probably now the most rock orientated song on the album.  They added in live drums and live guitar into the mix all throughout the song and it really adds more depth to the song.

This album doesn't hold up to the rest of his past however.  I still think the opening track is pretty corny.

Its why I never understood why Cornell used to get so much credit for Soundgarden. Don't here this stuff anymore obviously since they broke up twelve years ago and no one really cares anymore, but I understand why it would have been frustrating for any member of that band not named Cornell.

Each solo album he does never lives up to his previous standards. While Audioslave was pretty damn good and did have some excellent tracks, they were lacking as well. There's always three ingredients missing, and he can release 30 solo albums and it wont change this fact.

I only heard the single Scream, and while it's a bit different, it's seemed kindof like a NIN-lite. Hearing Cornell sing with Timbaland sounds either hysterical, or awful. I'm not sure which but I gotta hear it.

I agree with this. Soundgarden fans will hate me, but to me its the same as his other projects - a few killer songs - but a lot of forgetable stuff as well. While I know soundgarden have some cool riffs and interesting time signatures and stuff...to me what was awesome about that band was the lyrics and vocal delivery. Chris is still a hell of a singer...he's got amazing range, power and depth to his voice.....i think he just needs to find the right group of talented backing people. People bag on audioslace now...but that first album has a lot of very good songs IMO...the RATM style gets a bit old for me, as did soundgarden, but they're still damn good. I know it will never happen - but to me cornell has the kind of range that I'd love to see introduced into VR. I think slash working with someone like cornell - with a lot of power, creativity and ability - might really bring out the best in him - and we might get something on par with GNR. Sadly...looks like it wont happen!
