PLAN COMES TOGETHER FOR 'THE A-TEAM': Joe Carnahan in negotiations to direct
Fox's big-screen version of "A-Team" looks to be finally coming together.
Joe Carnahan is in negotiations to helm the action movie with Ridley and Tony Scott's shingle Scott Free coming on board as producers. Stephen J. Cannell, who co-created the show, is also producing.
The trek to bring "A-Team" to the big screen has been a long one, with various actors, directors and writers landing on it before springing off of it. John Singleton was last attached, but ultimately left after casting issues stalled the project.
Carnahan, meanwhile, has been facing challenges with his passion projects that were to have been follow-ups to his kinetic movies "Smokin' Aces" and "Narc." "White Jazz" was muted when it encountered casting and financing issues. "Bunny Lake Is Missing" disappeared when star Reese Witherspoon hopped away.
Fox is betting this is the right combination, setting a June 11, 2010, release date for the feature, which is written by Skip Woods.
Carnahan seems like an ideal candidate for "A-Team," which told the adventures of a group of US Army Special Forces who are on the run for a crime they didn't commit. The team included Hannibal, the leader whose favorite line was "I love it when plan comes together; Face, a ladies man; Howling Mad Murdock, an unstable pilot; and B.A. Baracus, the surly muscle (B.A. stands for "Bad Attitude").
The 1980s series became a pop cultural phenomenon, with the theme song played by high school bands across the continent, made a star out of Mr. T, who played Baracus, and unleashed a slew of catchphrases onto the public.
Carnahan's gritty and grounded action style would be well-complemented by the Scotts. Tony Scott practically invented MTV-style shooting with his slick movies, ranging from "Top Gun" to "Man on Fire," while Ridley Scott's oeuvre, with such titles as "Gladiator," "Black Hawk Down" and "Body of Lies," is equally muscular.

This film adaption of the TV series has been in development hell for probably about 15 years.
They want to get rid of the campiness, but in alot of ways, the campiness is what gave the show it's charm.
I always thought Mel Gibson (Hannibal), John Stamos (Faceman), Jim Carrey (Murdock), and Ice Cube (B.A.) would be a good cast, although it might be a bit difficult convincing audiences that Gibson, Stamos & Carrey are Iraqi veterans.
As for the production staff, I can see Tony Scott being apart of this, but i'm shocked someone as high-profile as Ridley Scott associating himself with "The A-Team".
That's like hearing Michael Mann is going to produce the next "Dukes of Hazzard" film.

Actually those are good choices. I was thinking Ice Cube & Jim Carrey (Ice Cube has been mentioned, and Carrey is pretty obvious) but the other two fill out pretty well. Matt IDllon would be a good pick too, could probably play either Hannibal or Faceman.

Ehh, Dillon has too much of a 'seriousness' to his look to be Faceman. I think Face has to be a pretty boy, charming, that kind of thing. I think Stamos fits that perfectly, and even Stamos has a bit of a resemblence to Dirk Benedict.
Gibson for Hannibal would probably work very well, because Hannibal has to be an older actor anyways, and Gibson is getting up there. Gibson playing a character like Hannibal, also would go a long way to repairing his image with the public too. Last I heard, really no one producer wise wants to work with him, unless it's bankable like a Lethal Weapon 5.
But if a guy like Gibson doesn't want the role, i'd almost bet my left-nut it goes to Tommy Lee Jones.
Leonardo DiCaprio could probably be Face, and he might be willing to take it. He's worked with Ridley Scott before, and recently.

I've already come up with a plan not to care.....
I liked this show when I was a kid. Even had those stupid A Team dolls. However, I don't think this show deserves a film reboot, and this is why its languished in developmental purgatory for almost two decades. Even those involved know it shouldn't be made.

It depends on how it's done. Granted the only TV-remake I really liked was "Miami Vice", but that was because Mann did it himself, and he also completely re-invented the wheel with it, and did very little in the way of the original series.
"The A-Team" could work with the Scott brothers darkening it up a bit, still with light-hearted comedy in a 'buddy cop formula' sense, and giving it a strong cast, mainly a strong lead, like a Gibson.
But I can see some of the restraint in people, because so many of these adaptions have been bloody horrible. I personally loved the original series, and still do. It's pure camp, and 80's cheese, but it's 80's cheese at it's absolute best, it's not lame like "Dukes", and I still find the jokes & characters funny. I'd hate to see something tarnish it, like a half-assed remake.

when i first heard about this xx years ago it was mentioned, George Hannibal Clooney and Brad Face Pitt.
course, that was when they were younger and might have suited the part a little more than they do(dont) now
