Spread Eagle.

I've never even heard that band. I do remember Badlands though.

Why isn't the L.A. Guns album Cocked and Loaded on this list?

While people seem to disagree on who and what hair metal is, that is actually a pretty solid list.

D, Bon Jovi were definitely hair metal. I'm not even one of that band's haters. They were one of my favorite bands before GNR hit the scene and changed my musical perspective.

Go watch their 'In and Out of Love' video. That's hair metal no matter how the cookie crumbles.

Faster Pussycat self titled album was incredible.  I am still shocked to this day at the lack of respect given to Hanoi Rocks--incredible band!  Is it me, or would anyone replace Dr. Feelgood with "Shout at the Devil"?

Faster Pussycat looses respect with many, because they are basically Aerosmith copycats. So were Tesla.

The reason GN'R got away with it, was because their music was very original, despite the Mama Kin & Train Kept A Rollin' covers.

I do think Faster Pussycat is one of the more underrated ones out there. I really enjoy their entire catalog, and to this day their cover of You're So Vain and Nonstop To Nowhere are on my regular MP3 mix.

Their industrial remix stuff sux tho.

Tesla sound nothing like Aerosmith

Yeah, but their presentation was totally like them.

Tesla in one of the last bands with great guitar playing. I really like them, although not a fan of the singer.

Rob Deluca of Spread Eagle is in Sebastian Bach's new band, which toured with GNR last year--he seems to be bud's with Axl!  I never was aware of them in 1990 when their debut came out.  Probably going to download it on ITunes today.

GNR, The Cult, and even Van Halen are not hair metal. People are so fucking retarded.

I'd like to add Def lep to that. They might have had a lot of hair but that was the style at the time. Excluding some mutt lange written tunes which leaned this way they were not hair metal

Going over that list, again, there's quite a few on there that aren't hair metal.

Motley Crue - hair metal, but not in it's truest form. More of a harder glam.
Def Leppard - pop rock
Van Halen - hard rock
Ratt - like Motley, more of a harder glam, than full on hair metal.
David Lee Roth - hard rock
Tesla - hard rock
Faster Pussycat - hard rock
Extreme - hard rock
Skid Row - heavy metal
The Cult - hard rock
GN'R - hard rock

Hair metal wasn't just about the look either. None of those bands could touch the nut hairs on Eddie's sac. People who write shit like this and group bands into "Hair metal" just because they had hair and were out in the 80's should be shot in public for their stupidity.

You nailed it right there BLS.

Tesla's music sets them outside the "hair metal" crap as well.

What I always find funny is people who never even grew up with this music (let alone heard anything outside of the hits) are the "experts" on what this music was.  Fact is NOT everyone with "big hair" was a "hair band".

All in all this list is better than most, it was good someone picked Pyromania over Hysteria still yet this is a case of "going with the popular album" instead of the best one.  Pyromania and Hysteria were monsters in sales but High N Dry is, was and will always be the bands best album.  It's a hint of what they could have been if success hadn't altered their path.

It's also a joke to see Van Halen's 1984.  Yes this was a decent album but compared to the likes of their debut, VHII, Women and Children First and Fair Warning it's a joke.  Another case of "pick the popular album".  Makes me wonder if these people even heard anything outside of the hits.

Motley Crue's Dr. Feelgood is another shining example. Sure it's an ok album but compared to Shout at the Devil (which was left off) this is a joke.  Good to see their debut album made it at least.

Anytime I see White Lion, Poison and Extreme on these lists I cringe.  Not because they aren't hair bands (yes THESE are) but to see the likes of Tesla, Van Halen, Skid Row, The Cult and Guns N Roses on the SAME list makes me nauseated.

These guys write about shit they don't know, how else can you explain such blashphemy!

Good question.  Very underrated and forgotten by many.  That album was solid and had a similar "sleaze" to GNR, while not on the same level of greatness this was still a good album.
