Isn't that what it's all about? Growth? Something new?

Right now i'm seeing the same hatred for Arizona Cardinals being in the Super Bowl, as I did for the Tampa Bay Rays being in the World Series. What gives? Maybe I don't want to see the fucking Patriots or Red Sox every goddamn year, ya know?

Well being a Patriot and Red Sox fan I love the idea of seeing them win every goddamn year.  I don't mind seeing underdog teams make a run every once in awhile.  I had a problem with the Rays fans mostly.  A majority of them never gave a crap about the team until this year and all of a sudden they're growing mohawks and painting them blue.  The same people probably couldn't have named the starting lineup at the start of the season.  These bandwagon fans come out of nowhere once a perennial bottom feeder does well.  That's my main objection.  I have nothing against the teams theselves.  I'm pulling for the Cardinals.  They're on a roll right now, plus I'm not too fond of Steeler fans.  I've got Patriot season tickets and the Steeler contingent were far too giddy after routing the Patriots at Gillette this year.  And those gosh darn terrible towels.  The Cardinals were nice enough to not even show up and the Pats routed them by 40 points.  I can't believe they're still playing after seeing that just a month ago.

Too many teams in the NFL for one.

Totally agree with that.  I think they should go back to the 28 team NFL that a lot of us old guys (early 30's) grew up with.  I think we could see some great things with that and the parity rules.

It'll never happen because it means less revenue coming in, and we're more apt to have to subscribe to NFL Network just to see a game than we are to see them start getting rid of teams.

Sadly bandwagoners are just the way it goes. The Red Sox have them too. In FL I never saw a single Red Sox hat 'til after 2003 when they got close, then of course they went in 2004 & 2007.

I've been a diehard Cub fan all my life, and suddenly after 2003, there was this explosion in "so-called" Cub fans, who jumped on board and loved the Cubbies, simply because they got within 5 outs of the WS in the 2003 NLCS.

I saw everyone suddenly become a Tampa Bay Bucs fan, after their Super Bowl win in 2002 (or 2003?) can't remember.

I know plenty of Rays fans, who've been there since '98, but yes, they did have a bunch of bandwagon people. Marlins did too in '97 & 2003, with their WS wins.

I just enjoy seeing underdog teams succeed, but the fans don't really have anything to do with it. And yes, in case you're wondering I was rooting for the Rockies in 2007. 16

A couple years ago I heard a sportsradio show (I think it was Colin Cowherd) that had a, give up your team and not get ridiculed for bandwagon jumping day.  The rationale being that choosing what sports team you root for is the only decision you make when you're 10 that you're held to for the rest of your life.

As much as I complain about bandwagoners, the only thing that's the same about the Bears since I started rooting for them are the uniforms and the owners (which I've bitched about more often than not).  Logically being a long-term fan doesn't make sense.

That's why when I see a bandwagon fan (you can normally tell them because they only know one player on the team and obsess about them) I either kick them in the nuts or kick them down a flight of stairs.  Then toss them a cowboys jersey to wash up.  Really, "your" team should be the one in your hometown or where you lived at one point.  Motherfuckers in Jersey rooting for the 49ers are just fucking retards.  I know it sucks if you're near a team that does horrible every year, but it is only a game afterall.  So my suggestion to all of you who know bandwagon douches, just push em in front of a bus.

Seriously, what if you're in near a town that has a professional sports team? How do you determine which team is your home team?

I'll raise you one better: I've been rooting for the Pirates since 1990.  They haven't had a winning record since 1992.  GNR was still doing the Illusion tour.  So, if by some miracle chance of god they actually reach a World Series, and you see all these "fans" pop up; you just know those people are bandwagoners.  Oh yeah, the last time the Pirates were in the NLCS they were 2 strikes away and lost on a play at the plate when the slowest guy in baseball (Sid Bream) scored the winning run.

I'm not a bandwagoner just because I root for the Cardinals to beat the Steelers.  The circumstances dictate I have to pick one team or not watch the game at all.  In truth, I'm an equal opportunity hater rooting against 31 teams except my favorite team.

I agree.  I used to be a big Hartford Whalers fan, being from CT.  They disbanded in 1997 and fled to Carolina.  I'm a fan of all other major sports teams from the Boston area, as that's the next closest major city with sports teams.  But once the Whale left I gave up on the NHL for good.  I couldn't possibly switch to the Bruins since they used to be one of the Whale's rivals.  No matter how BAD the Patriots were in the early 90's I never once thought about switching my allegiance to the Giants (NYC is about equal distance as Boston from me so geographically it would've made sense).  In the end, that paid off.  As for sticking with the Sox over the Yanks, 2004 was magical.  That's why I've never bought into bandwagon fans.  Granted Boston is a major market so it's not like being a fan of the Oklahoma City Thunder, but it could be well worth the payoff in the end if you stick it out.
