Flyers pull ANOTHER dirty hit. The 4th they've had this year. Honestly it's time to suspend the coach 2 or 3 games, and Hartnell should get at least 5, not a measly 2. Yeah, he let up initially, but once he was a few inches away he threw his body into Alberts. He could've done much more to prevent that hit, which even if Alberts had been standing would have been charging or boarding.

Former Canucks coach has 'nothing to say' about Bertuzzi hit

Asked if he said that Steve Moore "must pay the price," former Vancouver Canucks head coach Marc Crawford told reporters Thursday that he had "nothing to say at this time. It is not the time or place."Crawford, who coaches the Los Angeles Kings, was responding to court documents alleging Todd Bertuzzi's infamous sucker-punch of Moore in 2004 happened after Crawford said something in the dressing room.

Bertuzzi was an all-star forward with the Vancouver Canucks, then coached by Crawford, when he punched Moore from behind 8:41 into the third period of a 9-2 loss to the Colorado Avalanche on March 8, 2004.Moore suffered three broken vertebrae in his neck and a concussion, has not played since, and is suing Bertuzzi for upward of $38 million.
Crawford is not a defendant in the lawsuit.
Bertuzzi reportedly was asked 1,300 questions under oath at his discovery and, according to a proposed amended statement of claim filed on Moore's behalf in an Ontario court, Bertuzzi disclosed that Crawford said Moore "must pay the price."
"An enraged Crawford, inside the Canuck dressing room, pointed to Steve Moore's name and number on a board containing the Avalanche roster and demanded that 'He [Moore] must pay the price,'" the amended statement read.
Moore knocked Canucks captain Markus Naslund unconscious with an open-ice hit to the head when the teams clashed at the Pepsi Center in Denver on Feb. 16, almost a month before the Bertuzzi incident.
Moore was neither penalized nor suspended for the hit.
The amended statement contended that Crawford was "directing vigilante retaliation," and that "Bertuzzi knew exactly what was expected of him by his superiors and the consequences to him if he did not deliver."
Crawford's alleged comment was also confirmed in sworn testimony from Canucks general manager Dave Nonis, the statement said.
Bertuzzi's lawyers reportedly requested the court seal transcripts of the interviews, but a court official reserved judgment on Wednesday.
Bertuzzi suspended 17 months
The NHL suspended Bertuzzi indefinitely for attacking Moore on March 8, and didn't reinstate him until Aug. 8, 2005 '” exactly 17 months later.
Bertuzzi remained under suspension throughout the 310-day NHL lockout and was prohibited from competing in the 2004 World Cup of Hockey, two world championships and in European pro leagues.
He also forfeited $501,926 US in salary and hundreds of thousands more in endorsements.
Criminal charges filed against Bertuzzi in Vancouver resulted in a guilty plea and a sentence of one year's probation plus 80 hours of community service.
Moore later filed a lawsuit in Denver against Bertuzzi and other notables, including Canucks ownership, but it was dismissed.
With Bertuzzi in Turin, Italy, playing for Team Canada at the Winter Olympics, Moore filed a second lawsuit on Feb. 15, 2006.
At the time, he was seeking $18 million for lost income, aggravated and punitive damages, but is now demanding $38 million in an amended claim.
One of the dirtiest plays ever in sports. Terrible event. I usually am against lawsuits for hockey hits, but this wasn't a hit or a fight. I watched the clip again today and was reminded how disgusting it was. I hope Moore wins, and I hope this prevents Bertuzzi from ever getting in the HoF.

i wish this thing would go away....still i dont think it was Bertuzzi's punch that hurt him, it was the 6-7 guys who jumped on top of them afterwards that fucked him up
along hte same lines, i was thinking the other day...if a professional athlete gets in trouble with the law for a criminal offnse that they should be banned from the sport.
Heatley is another one, everyone seems to forget he killed that kid down in atlanta who was with him in the car when he was going about a billion mph through town

Yeah even I forget about the Heatley thing pretty often. I agree with you, once its brought up to me and then I see people wearing his jersey... it seems wrong.
Sabres are sucking out West. Anaheim and LA both went terribly. I'm not too worried but I expected a better performance from all areas.

Thrashers take Recchi off waivers. I'm a little surprised, I don't think the 39 year old can really help a team unless it's a truly a terrible team. Atlanta's 2nd in their division.

The Bertuzzi punch didn't break Moore's neck. It's clearly when he was piled on after the play. You can even see when the guys fall on him how his neck snaps. Pretty gruesome. I agree, Heatley should've been prosecuted and put in jail for what he did. His case is worse than Mike Danton's in that what he did actually ended another's life. It's like the whole Rob Ramage mess. Just because he was an up and coming star doesn't make it right for him to be able to drink and drive and end a life.
I still think Recchi has some good hockey left in him. If not, he's a veteran leader. The Thrashers could use someone like that.
What a turn around since the last time I posted in here. The Habs are getting killed night in and night out. Might be time to consider a coaching change. Carbo was a great player, but as a coach he's been questionable.

This is what frustrates me, but also gives me hope about the Sabres. They're below teams that have a GF 6, 14 and 16 lower than GA. But Buffalo posts an above average 86-81. Somehow it hasn't translated into wins. They need consistency badly.

Buffalo won't make a move. And I don't think they should really. They're just way too young but they need to find structure from within, not from a trade or free agent that they can't afford. It's easy to forget how young they are. Hecht is the oldest forward, and he's 31 or 32. Vanek's in just his third season (drafted 03), Roy and Pominville were drafted in 01, etc... a star player would help, but with a GF-GA of +5 they should be much higher in the standings than they are.
Boston sucks. Boring-est hockey in the East. But their goaltending is amazing. Auld, the damn back-up, played like an all-star Tuesday, 45 shots on him and 1 goal I think? That's unbelievable.
