I'll be heading to CC today - I need a new TV anyway, so I may as well take advantage of the opportunities.

That is too bad about all those employees. My wife works at another retail giant & if that suddenly closed....well, i don't even want to think about it. IMO, America has just gotten to fat(both literally & figuratively) & it's time to shed all the excess poundage. Things, economically speaking, are scary where I live right now and stories like CC don't help ease the sense of impending doom.

"The Company" from the Alien films is on the horizon.

There is no America. There is no democracy. There is only IBM, and ITT, and AT&T, and DuPont, Dow, Union Carbide, and Exxon. Those *are* the nations of the world today. What do you think the Russians talk about in their councils of state, Karl Marx? They get out their linear programming charts, statistical decision theories, minimax solutions, and compute the price-cost probabilities of their transactions and investments, just like we do. We no longer live in a world of nations and ideologies, Mr. Beale. The world is a college of corporations, inexorably determined by the immutable bylaws of business. The world is a business, Mr. Beale. It has been since man crawled out of the slime. And our children will live, Mr. Beale, to see that . . . perfect world . . . in which there's no war or famine, oppression or brutality. One vast and ecumenical holding company, for whom all men will work to serve a common profit, in which all men will hold a share of stock. All necessities provided, all anxieties tranquilized, all boredom amused.

And that was 30 years ago.

I prefer to think OCP is around the corner. Hopefully Robo is too...

I sincerely doubt there will be good deals for a couple of weeks.

Agreed. The liquidators are not going to just kick in the door with jaw-dropping steals. They're going to MARKET a sale, and most likely keep prices the same. Then when they see the product isn't moving, they'll gradually come down, 'til they find a price that'll move it.

I'd of course love to see $2,000 TV's for $500, and $10 PS3 games, but I know that's a pipe dream.

Circuit City had been in trouble for a while though so this is no surprise.  I pity the people going to Circuit City this weekend to scope out a sale since CC will only take off 10% of the product.  This will strengthen Best Buy and Wal Mart.  Personally speaking, I don't really care for Best Buy's prices on electronics--they always seem a bit high.  I've always found decent dvd deals there though at least compared to CC.

Didn't find the deal we wanted, so we didn't buy anything.  Easy decision, we can wait.

The only reason places like CircutCity & BestBuy have lasted this long is because alot of places don't let Walmart in. Specifically, they don't let SuperWalmart in. Then, even where there are SuperWalmarts, they're sometimes not allowed by local governments to sell certain items like alchohol...so that the other businesses can survive & create competition. But if Walmart was allowed to run rampant, they'd have a car dealership in the parking lot, a large appliance section & a gas station/liqour store all in one easy stop. They're capitalism perfected.

Their pricing is terrible on major stuff so far. It's only a day or two into it though. As I said, one of my best friends runs a store out here. If any major discounts are coming up, I'll post here so you guys can get a heads up.

Thanks for the help, and post them just for curiosity's sake.

But I think the problem is that the liquidators will work store-specific. So a deal I might be able to get at a local CC, 99% likely will not be available nationwide.

I know other people that were heading out Saturday or today to look at deals, and my response was - why?

The good deals are down the line. They aren't going to give it away right away.
