Re: 2008 NFL season
Peyton & Marino absolutely belong in the HOF. Warner probably wouldn't at the end of his career. Career stats is huge. Look at Barry Sanders, one of if not the best RB ever!! Yet I'm not sure he ever won a playoff game. Yet if Terrell Davis ever gets in it will be mostly for his SB win instead of his short lived career & stats. Tim Brown & Chris Carter were some of the best WR's to play, top 10 probably, but without a SB I'm not sure either will get in (I don't think either is). Yet Michael Irvin, with probably lesser career stats might get in over them. Is that how it should be?
I'm not saying all players with SB rings should get in...but some players just have the ability to step it up a notch when it counts...they should get consideration, the QB position has huge pressure on it and in the playoffs to stay cool under those conditions is a special talent
and i'm not saying that peyton and marino arent deserving but IMO it tarnishes their legacy when they've choked year after year when the team needed them the most

Peyton hasnt exactly had championship caliber defenses in Indy either, except for the year they won.

Re: 2008 NFL season
A lot of the Colts playoff losses had their offense putting up low numbers (3 against NE in a conference championship game once) and even though defenses win their offense lost in clutch situations. I can admit the same about the Bills in the early 90s, they were an offensively lead team and they weren't the same in the SB even when putting up 40-50 points in conference games. Still Manning and Marino earned a spot no doubt (Kelly too).
Re: 2008 NFL season
Yeah I agree. I think right now, at best, it is border line. For a couple of years he played out of this world, then the concussion issues started and was never the same in St Louis, or his short stint with the Giants. This year he really played at a high level. So if they win the Super Bowl, he gets strong consideration.
That's true, but he has two great receivers now, which he also had in St Louis. A guy like McNabb wouldn't be up in the air at all if he had spent any time with weapons like that. The year that he had one they went to the Super Bowl.
All those years in between he didn't have that, and he didn't look as good. That's why I think he doesn't necessarily deserve it, he's only as good as the people around him, instead of elevating the people around him with his own play.
Re: 2008 NFL season
It's true McNabb's olny Super Bowl appearance came the year TO played with the Eagles but the Eagles actually got to the Super Bowl without TO. He missed the last two regular season games with a sprained ankle and fractured leg. He also missed their first two playoff games before coming back in the Super Bowl. So McNabb made it there without a top WR to go to in the playoffs.

Yeah, I actually meant that as more of a compliment to McNabb, but after reading what I wrote it didn't come out that way.
I'm not a huge you have to win the big game guy, the Eagles have consistently been in the NFC title hunt picture even without any big-play receivers. Imagine what they/he could have done with Holt/Bruce or Boldin/Fitzgerald.

Re: 2008 NFL season
^so what....all of tom brady's rings came without a top tier receiver at his disposal, some quarterbacks bring those around them to a higher level....others need someone to help them get there
And then with the best or one of the best in the league he couldn't win it all. Was the offense worse? No, it was better. Did Brady play worse? No. Things just don't happen the same way all the time.
