Corey Haim autopsy results: Former child actor died of natural causes, not a drug overdose
By: Nancy Dillion
Daily News West Coast Bureau Chief
LOS ANGELES - Eighties teen idol Corey Haim died of natural causes and not a drug overdose as originally suspected, officials said Tuesday.
Haim, who battled addiction for years, died from respiratory distress, pneumonia and coronary disease, according to the coroner's final autopsy results.
"The toxicology report revealed no significant contributing factors," the coroner's press release said.
Haim, 38, collapsed in his mom's apartment March 11. His manager Mark Heaslip earlier told the Daily News that Haim suffered from heart problems.
"He told me he had a skip in his heart, nothing major," Heaslip said after Haim's death, strenuously objecting to reports Haim was back in the grip of addiction.
Investigators found bottles of Valium, Vicodin and a powerful muscle relaxant at Haim's home and California's attorney general linked him to an illegal drug ring that sold fake prescriptions.
But the tragic actor had been running a fever and complained of flu-like symptoms when he dropped to his knees near his mom's bed about two hours before he died at a nearby Burbank hospital, sources said.
The Canadian-born actor starred in "Lucas" and "The Lost Boys" but was known more recently for the A&E reality show "The Two Coreys" about his friendship with fellow former teen heartthrob Corey Feldman.

Although i'm sure some of his heart ailments were caused by years of excessive drug use. He also ballooned to 300 pounds during his down time, which could've clogged his arteries.
His story is an excellent point for society, which assumes far too much, that just because someone has a history with drugs, whether abuse or use, and suddenly drops dead at a young-er age, don't just assume it's an OD.
The media should be ashamed, as his body wasn't even cold and it was "Corey Haim dies of OD" splattered across newspapers and the internet everywhere.
My two cents
Re: Coroner: Corey Haim died of Pneumonia, Heart Disease
The pills were definitely a HUGE factor in the heart disease. Other than an OD, dropping dead from a heart attack is my biggest fear as a pill user. Taking the amounts the typical user takes can cause irregular heartbeats and eventually permanent damage to not just your heart, but other vital organs as well.
Prescription drugs have the illusion of safety because doctors hand them out like they're M&M's. It's dangerous shit and its actually an epidemic. Even kids take this crap now.
It's not like he was found at home dead from heart disease with cod liver oil and wheatgerm in his house. He was found with every drug he was addicted to.
There's no point in sugarcoating the situation. He was a drug addict whose body finally gave out. Not the first, and certainly wont be the last.
He took the same drugs my dad took for almost the same amount of time and died a year younger than my dad did.
My dad didn't die from "natural causes".
Re: Coroner: Corey Haim died of Pneumonia, Heart Disease
True, but you're focusing far too much on the heart ailment. I could grab some other news stories, but Haim's death was primarily linked to the Pneumonia. Many people die from Pneumonia, clean or sober, history or no history, doesn't matter.
The dude got sick, and he died from it. Simple as that.
However the parallels between Haim and those such as Eddie Guerrero are eerie. Guerrero was another who abused drugs for years, got clean, and then died (around 38 if I remember correctly) because his heart gave out from all those years of abuse, it was in an incredibly weakened state. I think they said he was that age, and had the heart of a 70 year old.
As for presciption drugs, short of death, what's not to like? Especially the painkillers, which were Haim's main thing. It's basically quick, easy - heroin. Hell Layne Staley discovered Oxycontin back in like 91/92, a decade before anyone even knew the name of that shit.
Call me a cynic, but I kind of have a bleaker look at this "epidemic". We're all users of SOME thing. Some indulgence. I don't want to say addict, because not everyone is. But, it's like singling out the drug industry and the doctors for handing out pills "like they're M&M's", considering the fact we condition our society (I can only speak for America, as I am one) to drink Bud/Bud Light/Coors/Michelob, or whatever the fuck, and then program the kids to think "Beer = fun", when in fact the body count for people using alcohol and either killing themselves, or others, is FAR FAR FAR higher than that of drug users.
I just think if we keep focusing on these Rx drugs too much, they'll be turned into another Marijuana. A drug, singled out and blamed for certain aspects to society in behavior, death, and medical issues, when the alcohol industry is passed over, and kept alive, because they're big business and tied heavily into the American economy.
I think government can be your friend, in the Democrat-sense, but I don't think they have any right telling me what I can and can't use. "Well, it could kill you" - so be it. Nobody is uneducated here. All of these Rx pills, come with page after page of warnings, risks, and side effects all the time. If you buy them illegally, you still can hit up the internet in 2010 to find out just about anything you need to know. The info is out there, unless you can't read, if you die, it was your own choosing.
Don't trust doctors. Trust yourself, and KNOW what you put into your body. And also know what your kids are using in medical procedures. Just the other day a 5-year old child died from OD'ing on that surgery anethesia that MJ died from. Even the stuff that's in your house. Educate your kids. Let them know what you're on, and the dangerous side effects. Anything beyond that is your game.

Mine is the breathing issue. It definitely slows me down. I'm too scared to take them and go to bed. They will put you into a coma if you're not careful.
Also to add to the Haim thing, they said there were prescription drugs found in his system (I assume the ones they found), and they also found Marijuana, but they were all very low levels, and didn't cause the death. Once again, they still said the Pneumonia was the leading cause.
