Re: I met Marty Friedman of Megadeth
Hey,
Went to a guitar clinic last night where Marty Friedman was kind enough to demonstrate some of his skills to us.
He played about 4 or 5 tracks from his solo works, then opened the room up to questions which ranged from his views on japan, deathmetal, megadeth, to specific questions about guitar techniques and approaches to playing. Then he did some autographs and photos and stuff.
While i already knew he was awesome, in person I was blown away by his sence of melody and phrasing, and his touch on the guitar. Even when it's not fast and stuff, it's the emotive way he gets the melodies out of it....fucking beautiful shit.
Anyway, for the droogies out there, while he did say he's learn't never to say never, and that he has a lot of pride and is very happy about his time in megadeth and loves the guys, it was also pretty clear that artisticly he wants to keep doing his own thing, and that a reunion isn't going to be happening any time soon. But then I can live with that as I enjoy what chris is doing in deth.
Anyway....all I can say from meeting marty is that not only is he clearly one of the best guitarists in the world, but he was also a very nice guy, and very humble about his overwhelming abilities too!

Awesome story dude. It's always cool to meet the real people behind the great music we listen to only to find out they are great human beings as well.
