Taking the vampire concept, humanzing it into a human tragedy is stuff that hasn't been seen in that genre since Forever Knight.

This could be an engrossing vampire drama for adults, rather than the teeny bop shit out there right now.

Sam Neill is a nice addition to that cast. I don't see him at all anymore, and he was always a vastly underrated actor.
