Re: Best album of the 90s elimination- Round 13

OH YEAH it does. I understand your Soundgarden love, which is cool, and I agree with you on Illusion's filler, but I wouldn't start throwing stones at the house of UYI & Dirt with the 'filler' comment concerning Soundgarden, or at least BMF. It has an equal amount of filler, no different than the Illusion albums.
No different? You didn't list one single track that would be regarded as filler on that album, but admit there are two handfuls of filler on this Illusion set.
1. Rusty Cage
2. Outshined
3. Slaves & Bulldozers
4. Jesus Christ Pose
5. Face Pollution
6. Somewhere
7. Searching with My Good Eye Closed
8. Room a Thousand Years Wide
9. Mind Riot
10. Drawing Flies
11. Holy Water
12. New DamageOnly thing that could be classified as filler on that would be Face Pollution, maybe New Damage.
Care to pick out five or six filler tracks on that?
This album is probably being flushed this round, but people should give that record another listen.
Regarding Superunknown.....
1. Let Me Drown
2. My Wave
3. Fell on Black Days
4. Mailman
5. Superunknown
6. Head Down
7. Black Hole Sun
8. Spoonman
9. Limo Wreck
10. The Day I Tried to Live
11. Kickstand
12. Fresh Tendrils
13. 4th of July
14. Half
15. Like SuicideI triple dog dare anyone to find filler on that not named Kickstand.
BMF filler...
Slaves and Bulldozers
Face Pollution
Mind Riot
Drawing Flies
Superunknown filler...
My Wave
Kickstand
Half
TRUE - Use Your Illusion filler, not just fan bias of preferences. And what I mean by that are songs that a 'true filler'. Not fan bias of certain songs (like Don't Damn Me for example. I think it's filler, but MANY disagree with me. Live and Let Die was also very popular, etc.)
UYI 1
Right Next Door To Hell
Back Off Bitch
Garden of Eden
Bad Apples
UYI 2
Get In The Ring
Shotgun Blues
Don't Cry [alternate]
My World
So this is an even game.
Re: Best album of the 90s elimination- Round 13
*the only songs I really care for on those two records. Art is always subjective and "filler" can be defined as any song you don't listen to. From a sales perspective UYI blows both of those albums out of the water as Badmotorfinger only sold 2x platinum and Superunknown 5x platinum (compared to 7x platinum for the Illusions-the albums went head to head in the marketplace as well-UYI was still being certified in 1997 6 years after release so the albums had legs through the grunge years.) Artistically, I find the 4 albums to be a "draw".
Obviously art is subjective, but I think we can argue the merits of what does and doesn't constitute filler. Filler isn't a song that you don't like. Its either a pure shit song all around or just something that obviously doesn't fit in with the rest of the album. Get in the Ring is filler, and its filler even if Joe Blow in Cleveland thinks its the greatest song ever recorded. A cheesy bitchfest about Andy Secher and Mick Wall does not go with the context of that record. Neither does Shotgun Blues or My World. Since KOHD had already been released and wasn't needed, you can throw it in the filler category as well.
I'm not gonna let album sales decide what I like or how much filler is contained within. Down on the Upside has a dose of filler, yet musically shits on several albums still on this list. It also sold less than anything left on the list.

I agree with how you classify filler, then you immediately go against that and use "fan bias" with that list of Soundgarden filler. Those songs minus Face Pollution are not filler, and Slaves and Bulldozers is one of the album's monster tracks. That would be like saying Coma is filler on UYI I.
My Wave is not filler. Its one of the only "rant" style songs on Cornell's resume, and sticks to the basic themes of that record. Let Me Drown/My Wave/Fell On Black Days is a killer 1-2-3 punch.
Half filler? The Shepard compositions fit perfectly on that record.
