Re: Best album of the 90s elimination- Round 13
On the Illusions topic I removed the tracks I consider really bad filler and got it down to about 20 songs. Here's the list
Right Next Door To Hell
Dust N' Bones
Don't Cry (Original)
Perfect Crime
Bad Obsession
Back Off Bitch
Double Talkin' Jive
November Rain
The Garden
Don't Damn Me
Bad Apples
Dead Horse
Coma
Civil War
14 Years
Yesterdays
Breakdown
Pretty Tied Up
Locomotive
Estranged
I probably let some tracks on UYI I that would be considered filler creep on but that's because well I like them. And even so the filler on UYI 1 is one hundred times better than some of the crap on UYI 2.
Regardless I don't see either going just now and well Blood Sex Sugar Magik is definitely a better album than UYI 2. By a mile.
EDIT
Forgot You Could Be Mine.
Re: Best album of the 90s elimination- Round 13
Garden of Eden, Don't Damn Me, & Bad Apples is too much to sit through to get to Dead Horse & Coma. In some sense, Coma could've opened the album to really set an amazing tone, bump Dead Horse & The Garden up into the 5-10 range, and let November Rain close it, and just cut the rest of the tracks.
Man, growing up the second side of UYI I was my favorite and my favorite 3 track sequence was Don't Damn Me, Bad Apples, and Dead Horse.
Obviously we don't see eye to eye on this one.

James Lofton wrote:I certainly understand why people would start voting Illusions. If RCHP were not up there, I'd be voting for UYI II until it was gone. Maybe Dirt. Everything else is superior, and if GNR make it in to the finals, it will probably lose. When you separate those albums, the filler stands out. Badmotorfinger has no filler,
OH YEAH it does. I understand your Soundgarden love, which is cool, and I agree with you on Illusion's filler, but I wouldn't start throwing stones at the house of UYI & Dirt with the 'filler' comment concerning Soundgarden, or at least BMF. It has an equal amount of filler, no different than the Illusion albums.
No different? You didn't list one single track that would be regarded as filler on that album, but admit there are two handfuls of filler on this Illusion set.
1. Rusty Cage
2. Outshined
3. Slaves & Bulldozers
4. Jesus Christ Pose
5. Face Pollution
6. Somewhere
7. Searching with My Good Eye Closed
8. Room a Thousand Years Wide
9. Mind Riot
10. Drawing Flies
11. Holy Water
12. New Damage
Only thing that could be classified as filler on that would be Face Pollution, maybe New Damage.
Care to pick out five or six filler tracks on that?
This album is probably being flushed this round, but people should give that record another listen.
Regarding Superunknown.....
1. Let Me Drown
2. My Wave
3. Fell on Black Days
4. Mailman
5. Superunknown
6. Head Down
7. Black Hole Sun
8. Spoonman
9. Limo Wreck
10. The Day I Tried to Live
11. Kickstand
12. Fresh Tendrils
13. 4th of July
14. Half
15. Like Suicide
I triple dog dare anyone to find filler on that not named Kickstand.

*the only songs I really care for on those two records. Art is always subjective and "filler" can be defined as any song you don't listen to. From a sales perspective UYI blows both of those albums out of the water as Badmotorfinger only sold 2x platinum and Superunknown 5x platinum (compared to 7x platinum for the Illusions-the albums went head to head in the marketplace as well-UYI was still being certified in 1997 6 years after release so the albums had legs through the grunge years.) Artistically, I find the 4 albums to be a "draw".
