Core is a great party record. Is it timeless? Probably not, but everyone was digging Sex Type Thing, Dead and Bloated, Wicked Garden, Plush, Creep, and Sin. Its a great snapshot of that specific moment, and deserved to make this elimination.

As far as "cornhole" goes, there isn't one person on this list who is a better songwriter or has the creative output that he does. In fact, its not even close. He has reinvented himself twice, and will probably do so a third time if he whips out the reunion card.

I don't know about that. There's a lot of people up there capable of 're-inventing' themselves or succeeding in different bands/styles. Tom Morello is equally responsible for Audioslave's success and also has a side-project folk band, which I don't like, but hey, it's different and it's accepted by some (not unlike Cornell's pop-Timbaland stuff). Slash may do the same thing over and over but whenever he's there, good things seem to happen and he's on the verge of another hit record if all goes well with his solo album.

Dave Grohl has Nirvana and Foo Fighters to his name, as well as being a go-to drummer for any band in need, be it NIN or Queens of the Stone Age or etc.

A lot of the people with the most creative output are already gone. Mike Patton clearly wins the competition for variation of style and creativity and output, and contends or vocal range and ability with the best up here like Cornell. Dre wins if you want to talk the number of artists launched - he's been a hit by himself, with Snoop, with Tupac, with Eminem, etc.

You can argue one album or artist is the most deserving but not with such conviction. It's too close.

Neemo, I know Core sold huge but sell-out poseur records often do. It's like how Nickelback is a bigger band than AIC. And for the record, if we're talking about grunge-ish rock music that sells big, then Human Clay should have this elimination in the bag. And yet I don't see Creed on the list.

And sorry to edit just to add more, but to clarify, Neemo, my point about Core being a dreary grunge album was that it makes sense that Seattle would have that kind of attitude about day-to-day life because it's (no offense) kind of a dreary city known for constant rain. STP were in San Diego, by all accounts one of the most beautiful places in America. It just sounds stolen to me. Until Purple where I start to see some more originality to them.

you callin me a poseur cuz i like STP? 16

stp is a great band, for the first 3 albums weiland has some teriffic lyrics (there are flashes later on but for the first 3 albums lyrics were jsut pouring out), Rob DeLeo is an amazing bassist, he's some of the most killer chops around

Dean DeLeo has some really cool riffs and solo, and he always always throws a fucked up obscure chord into a song and its never the same one twice. Kretz is a great solid drummer who can pull all the peices together and has some cool grooves goin on...core isnt even my fav STP album (reserved for tiny music...) but all in all, of the stuff up there its right near the top its at least better than dirt (my least fav AIC record), ratm, sg and rhcp to me

you saying stp wasnt important to music history and a bunch of poseurs is a pretty untrue remark there are many songs from that album that still get air play

so cuz people live in san diego thay cant be angry? thats fucked up logic man...and why is everyone saying stp are poseurs anyway? what makes them such poseurs? besides weiland is from ohio....if that doesnt depress you nothing will 16 19

is there no abuse of women in sandiego? (Sex type thing is about a chick he loved that was gang raped by the highschool football team)?, no bullying(Creep)?, Naked sunday is about throwing off organized religions, Sin is about a bad relationship, kidnapping and murder (Plush)?

the whole album is just about the breakdown of society as a whole....

It's a breakdown of the Seattle scene's breakdown of one small sect of society. I don't know how to explain it any other way, when I hear something off of Core all I can think of are other bands. This is a list of A-list bands and I can't see STP as anything but a B-list group. How it's monotonous churn of done-before, done-better melancholy rock could be seen as 'greater' than something as firey and pure as RATM is beyond me.

But to each their own...

Core is a good solid album from STP, even though I thought Scott acted like a dick towards the end of his stint in VR, there's no getting away from the decent songwriting on that record. I also dont see why people call it fake or whatever either. What's that about? Sure scott has some influences..but dont we all.

I should have voted pearl jam but didn't notice it. Flame me all you want, but I never understood why people like PJ so much, they have a couple of ok songs to me...but i just don't like them.

if you wanna play that game AIC was supposed to be the next 80's metal band following skidrow and gnr....they changed their tune quick from facelift to dirt
