Re: Best album of the 90s elimination- Round 10
Because Scott douche bag I can't write for shit, we must vote for someone who played with Slash Weiland
Isn't on it.
That's the reason James.
It took me about 4 reads to comprehend this post
At first I thought you thought James was asking 'why is everyone voting for STP' and you were defending your pick for them.
ANyway, I think when a band has TWO albums in the polls, one usually gets targeted pretty quickly, as they know they like the other one better. Audioslave had this happen in the 2000's poll.
"Well, I know Audioslaves debut was my favorite album from them, so I might as well vote off Out of Exile". It's an easier decision than Out Of Exile vs Tool, or U2 or whoever.
Re: Best album of the 90s elimination- Round 10
core is a top 5 album easily, i dont understand the hate really. is it cuz he had a spat with axl?
as for badmotorfinger...welll you guys know i'm not a fan of cornhole, if i had to listen to an album by him, itd be superunknown....but of all the albums up there...i listen to all of them (except soundgarden) on a regular basis...including nevermind, ozzy, FNM, pantera and tool
outshined and jesus christ pose are cool tunes, but 2 songs do not make a great record

Re: Best album of the 90s elimination- Round 10
Neemo, it's because it's not a top 5 album. It was generally disliked, lacked originality and was a dreary grunge album from sunny San Diego. Has a couple good songs but it just looks and sounds so fake. Most albums up there contain 1 or 2 classic 90s songs and are important to the history of rock music. STP is not important, and a 90s compilation CD would get along just fine without Plush or Sex Type Thing.
I like it more than Pearl Jam but clearly Ten isn't about to go.

That's pretty much it. Has nothing to do with Weiland vs Axl, I just never liked Weiland much. Until Vr I gave him afighting chance, I still think they were ok. But STP, Didn't like them much at all until around 200/2001 finally warmed up to them a bit, basically when music got terrible I felt they were better than most contemporary bands of that time.
But as a whole, they were also ripoffs of the Seattle bands
Creep - PJ Black
Dead & Bloated - AIC Man in the Box
Sex Type Thing - Nirvana On a Plain
Wicked Garden - Soundgarden Outshined
Plush - obviously an Eddie Vedder ripoff
Don't get me wrong, I can get in to some of these songs now, and I always liked Interstate Love Song, but to me they were always a second tier band.
Re: Best album of the 90s elimination- Round 10
Core is a great party record. Is it timeless? Probably not, but everyone was digging Sex Type Thing, Dead and Bloated, Wicked Garden, Plush, Creep, and Sin. Its a great snapshot of that specific moment, and deserved to make this elimination.
As far as "cornhole" goes, there isn't one person on this list who is a better songwriter or has the creative output that he does. In fact, its not even close. He has reinvented himself twice, and will probably do so a third time if he whips out the reunion card.

I wasn't saying it didn't deserve to make it, it's just that it's running it's course. It's up against some heavyweights, and some original inspired music that broke alot of ground and were landmarks. Core's had a very favorable run, and it's soon time for it to go imho.
Re: Best album of the 90s elimination- Round 10
its generally disliked by selling 8 times platinum? it sold more than both those soundgarden albums combined...and of all the grunge albums up there only ten and nevermind outsold it
and you guys say it was a hated, nothing album? gimme a friggin break there
as for chris cornell....i know he's a creative guy and a great musician...i just don't dig his stuff....not knockin anyone for likin him, but i just dont see it thats all...to each his own, but to say it was disliked & lacked originality ....wow...just wow
and a dreary grunge album?! say it ain't so! i know soundgarden, pearljam, nirvana and alice in chains sing of daisies and rainbows right? you want happy? go listen to the b52's. otherwise angry and dreary was the music of the 90's...
