Re: Michael Jackson Elimination Round 3
"Dangerous" and "They Don't Care About Us"
Re: Michael Jackson Elimination Round 3
What's the issue with the 90's material?
I just don't think it was very strong, especially when matched up with his late 70s/mid 80s output. That second disc of History is a beer coaster.
I don't think it's nearly as strong either. BUT, there are a lot more songs from the 90's on that I like, or at least can tolerate, than I remembered.

I actually agree with that, I just don't think Dangerous is a beer coaster.
I still think the second disc of HIStory has some good songs on it, mainly Scream, They Don't Really Care About Us, Stranger In Moscow, Earth Song, You Are Not Alone, Childhood, and his cover of Smile. But I think every single one of those songs, although good, would be a B-side to the Michael Jackson of the 80's. But I think the rest could be cut, and the album be an EP.
It certaintly is not representative of the strong Michael Jackson 'albums', that were represented with Wall, Thriller & Bad. Even though I find myself listening to Dangerous the most, Dangerous is a mixed bag too. Half the album is some of the best material he's ever recorded, and the other half is incredible weak.
I think if Dangerous was...
1. Scream
2. They Don't Really Care About Us
3. Stranger In Moscow
4. Earth Song
5. Remember The Time
6. You Are Not Alone
7. Heal The World
8. Black Or White
9. Childhood
10. Give In To Me
11. Will You Be There
12. Keep The Faith
13. Gone Too Soon
14. Dangerous
15. Smile
(I don't know if that would fit on album or not)
I think it would be another Jackson masterpiece, if not maybe his best output.
The rest of his career, could've just been an EP, with maybe a couple of cut tracks from Dangerous, Blood On The Dance Floor-the song, and about 4 tracks from Invincible, equaling about a 7-8 track EP.
And the output would've been solid.
In a long-winded response, I do see what you're saying. I have always had a soft spot for Bad's "Another Part of Me". Fuckin' love that tune, and it's one of the B-sides on Bad. Yet compared to most of the 90's material... it's a masterpiece.
