I've never been a big fan of Janes Addiction or Porno for Pyros, except for the hits, (Jane Says, Stop, Been Caught Stealing, Pets etc, etc), anyway My wife was on a nostagia Kick and recently got the First Porno for Pyros album.
I listened to it, its pure shit, bad production, bad lyrics, bad musicians, bad songs, only 30 minutes long (give or take) and one hit, Pets. This album seriously refelcets all that was wrong and has become wrong with music today, thrown together just to get a buck.
What little respect i had for Ferrell is gone after listening to this album. I hate to be so negative in a thread, and i'm sure some of you guys (and gals) love porno for pyros and Janes Addiction, but man oh man, I'm so disappointed right now

That Porno for Pyros album kicks ass. Pets the only good song? Did you skip Porno for Pyros, Cursed Female, Black Girlfriend,etc.?
You gotta look at the time it was released in. I'm not looking at the album at the moment, but I think it came out in 93. Got some airplay in 94, which was a strange time for music. The music world didn't know what it wanted to be, which brought out some interesting things, for better or worse.
I like the lyrical direction this album takes. It feels like a few pages from Ferrell's diary in the early 90's.
I like this album more than any Jane's Addiction album.

Well, I don't think you're in the minority. I don't think many people liked it. It definitely didn't set the charts on fire. I really dug it at the time, and still do today. Part of the thing against it was the lyrics. It was obviously written in the aftermath of the LA riots, as he mentions the incident, and other songs(Black Girlfriend) revolve around it as well. Even Pets can be traced to it as he's basically given up on mankind(although in a light hearted way). This album was released a few years after those riots, so it was pretty much dated the day it was released.
It was definitely thrown together. He didn't know what to do in the Post Jane era, and with the whole grunge scene dying and other movements flourishing, he needed to make some sort of statement. It was a strange statement to make, and only found a limited audience.

Wow, I don't think I've ever heard of anyone having so little respect for Perry, Jane's & PFP. I'm a huge fan of pretty much everything Perry has ever put out & Lallapolooza was such a great idea. Jane's certainly had that Zepplinesque mystique going for them in their heyday.

^yeah nug....i dunno i had a healthy respect for Ferrel...just based on his name, but man i was really let down by that PFP album....maybe i should get my hands on a JA disk to try and gain some back 
I dunno like i said maybe he just too alternative for my tastes

The production of that album is why I've never baught it. I like Jane's Addictions hits but that's about it, Ferrell's voice is so-so and the music doesn't do a lot for me. Porno For Pyros intrigues me more but it seems to lack something.

I felt like I shouldn't say anything in this thread because of the way I feel about it, but just because of that post I will add... I feel the complete opposite of that. If Perry touches it, I'm pretty sure I won't like it. I just find his voice grating.
I'm on a Gn'R board and a lot of people would say the same thing about Axl, so my opinion doesn't really mean anything, but I just don't like the guy.
