Re: The Ultimate Showdown #1...WINNER ANNOUNCED
This will be #1 of an ongoing bi-weekly "showdown" series. The question and choices for each showdown will be left for two weeks and the winner announced at the end of this two week period. After the winner of the respective showdown is announced the next showdown will start! Should be fun! Once you have made your choice and casted your vote give your "argument" as to why you chose as you did.
I choose Bon Scott hands down.
Why? Both Bon and Brian had the "right" voice for the band and both had some staples in the history of all-time best rock albums. Brian Johnson's Magnum Opus with the group would be Back in Black while I would say Bon Scott's was Highway to Hell.
Comparing the two albums I would probably give a slight edge to Back in Black although both are definitely solid. The deciding factor for my choice of Bon however goes beyond the "best AC/DC" record, it came down to the catlogue under each frontman.
In my opinion only two records really were excellent with Brian, those being Back in Black and The Razor's Edge. Back in Black was pure gold but it took exactly a decade for AC/DC to put out another album that was anywhere near the brilliance of Back in Black. In between there were a couple of decent albums but nothing amazing. For Those About To Rock was as close as a "solid album" they came up with in between 1980's Back in Black and 1990's Razor's Edge. Since then what have they really done...I can't remember either. Enough said.
With Bon Scott you have the excellent Let There Be Rock, High Voltage, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, Powerage, Highway to Hell and one of my top ten best live albums of all time, If You Want Blood...You
Got It. None of these top Brian Johnson's Back in Black (or possibly even The Razor's Edge) but ALL of these are BETTER than anything else AC/DC has ever done and they did this in a period of about 5 years. Six VERY solid albums in five years with Bon vs two solid albums with Brian in 28 years!
Bon wins easily in my mind.

I'll go with Bon Scott. I think Brian Johnson is pretty awesome too, so it was a tough choice. I just like his voice more. They are both certainly unique though!

I love Brian. I know its kinda sacrilege as everyone I've ever met loves Bon....but thunderstruck gets me every time, not to mention back in black.....to be honest if Bon was resurrected I'd miss Brian at a show!
Re: The Ultimate Showdown #1...WINNER ANNOUNCED
You sold me Guns. I came into this with all intentions of voting Brian, mostly because I had Back in Black & Who Made Who on cassette tape, but also because I thought Brian sung alot of songs that Bon actually sings, due to Who made who including both.
I'll break it down like this, I think Brians best songs were better, but I think Bon had more good songs & a better overall collection. After Razor's Edge they were getting pretty old anyway, so I really wouldn't hold that against Brian as his fault. I voted for Bon though.

I voted for Brian although this is way too hard. They're both amazing for AC/DC...

I like em both. I've voted Brian, I prefer his voice and I think overall he's on more of my favourite AC/DC songs than Bon is although it's pretty close. Tough poll!
Re: The Ultimate Showdown #1...WINNER ANNOUNCED
Highway to Hell seals the deal for Bon. Its pure fucking gold, and there's no way the band could have topped it even if Bon had survived.
Both vocalists have pros and cons. I consider the ACDC discography to be incredibly weak with killer tracks spread out among it. The Brian era led to some pretty hefty mediocrity. Other than Back in Black and Razor's Edge, there is a 10 year period there where most of the material isn't worth a listen. They coasted on their name during the 80's.

Agreed fully, ACDC died artistically since the mid 80s until the Razors Edge and again after that, whereas Bon just died.
Anyone who thinks that there needs to be a discussion about who is better hasnt hears If You Want Blood.... the live album with Bon. If You Want Blood.... is just pure rock n roll energy, the essence of an awesome band.
Plus Brian looks like the chap that collects my bins.

Bon's winning (as it should be)...anybody else? If the votes stay slow we'll put up a new showdown Monday.
