A Long Island construction worker beat and squeezed his girlfriend's two beloved cats - one to death - when they refused to play with him, cops said Tuesday.
The vicious attack by David Wrigley, 24, broke the sternum and every rib of his live-in lover's 8-year-old tabby, Madeline. The other cat, a plump black kitty named Jynx, survived despite 13 broken ribs.
"I wish he would've hit me. At least I could hit back," said Wrigley's now ex-girlfriend Sara Sabol, 27, inside the tiny cottage in Selden where the beatings took place. "I want to see him put away for a long time. If I could, I'd break every one of his ribs."
Wrigley, who met Sabol in December and moved in with her Feb. 1, faces a felony animal cruelty charge after his arrest late Tuesday. Wrigley, who could get two years in jail, was arraigned and released without bail.
Suffolk County Police Detective Lt. Michael Murphy said Wrigley was home alone with the cats Saturday when the attack occurred.
"He wanted the cats to be friendly with him," said Murphy, noting Wrigley confessed. "The cats were hiding under the bed. ... He pulled the bed out, then slammed it against the wall, crushing the cats."
Wrigley then reached under the bed and violently "grabbed, squeezed and tugged" at them, Murphy said.
"If you don't like cats, you shouldn't get involved with a girl who loves her cats," Murphy said.

That's sick. I sometimes do ignore my cat I guess, but I would never hurt it. And I'd flip if someone did.
Although in a way this guy sounds like Lennie (From Of Mice and Men). Is it known that he's not challenged or insane?

That's horrible.
Can you imagine if this guy had kids and they didn't want to play with him. I sure hope he never has kids or is around animals in the future.

This story makes me physically ill. If a woman ever did this to my cats, jail would be the last thing she would have to worry about. I wouldn't even call the cops.
Myself as well....that just makes me so angry. I hope the bastard gets the shit kicked out of him from head to toe twice over.
what a sick bastard! It's incredible someone can get so infuriated over such a little thing as cats 'refusing' to play with him. Poor Madeleine
