Re: Songwriting Credits
I was looking for Absurd and stumbled across this on both YouTube and Spotify
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=O … mApZIyam_k
https://open.spotify.com/album/782SVOut … l_branch=1
https://aienofficial.bandcamp.com/
A MyGNRForum user named "Aien" has recorded his own versions of several of the songs on the storage locker leak and other Chinese Democracy tracks. The interesting part is that the songs appear to have proper writing credits, although some have been renamed.
1. Warmth Before The Cold (aka Circus Maximus) - W. Axl Rose
2. Hard School - Chris Pitman · Dizzy Reed · Paul Tobias · Josh Freese · Robin Finck · Tommy Stinson · W. Axl Rose
3. Quick Silver (aka Quicksong) - Robin Finck · Brian Carroll · W. Axl Rose
4. Going Down - Tommy Stinson
5. Recurring Puncture (aka Dub Suplex) - Brian Carroll
6. State of Grace - W. Axl Rose · Robin Finck
7. How One Remains (aka As It Began) - W. Axl Rose
8. Assuage the Pain / Take It Back / An Act Most Devious (aka D Tune / Zodiac / Me & My Elvis / Devious Bastard / Realdoll.com) - Brian Carroll · Robin Finck
9. IRS
10. Atlas Shrugged - Chris Pitman · Dizzy Reed · Paul Tobias · Josh Freese · Robin Finck · Tommy Stinson · W. Axl Rose
11. Perhaps - W. Axl Rose · Paul Tobias · Robin Finck
Just curious what everyone thinks - might these credits be legit?
Re: Songwriting Credits
It's possible that they're real. I mean....they look consistent. Nothing stands out as clearly fake..... although Finck getting credit for Devious Bastard is a head scratcher. On the other hand, they've worked together before on that soundtrack. Giant Robot featuring Robin Finck? I'd like to see an album in that alternate universe.
Actually..... wasn't Circus Maximus one of the songs Dizzy was involved with? That's going on the assumption that it's The Idea of March.

Re: Songwriting Credits
Absurd has now been added to the GMR (Slash and Duff's PRO) and ASCAP databases. The SESAC database (Axl's PRO) has yet to be updated. Pitman is not listed among the writers/royalties receivers:

Re: Songwriting Credits
Hmmm so did Pitman just write the intro and that siren synth then??? Reed is listed so at least it seems that finck and BH will get credit for other songs. I still think it is scummy how they are just saying written by GNR so the casual fans think axl slash and duff wrote it. Also how can Slash and Duff have a writing credit when they are literally just playing the BBF version? Are they going to bury bucket, finck, and paul???? very interesting

ASCAP and the other similar organizations are about who gets royalties, not about who really wrote what. Sorum and Dizzy are listed as writers in the ASCAP database for the UYI songs, even though they're not credited as writers in the albums' liner notes and didn't write anything.
So it doesn't necessarily mean that Pitman wrote only the intro or that Buckethead and Finck will get credits on other songs. Axl, most likely, owns the copyright of everything written during the CD era, so he doesn't have to give credits - or maybe there's been a deal with the former members and they'll get paid a fixed amount without being credited. It also seems that there's been an agreement between Axl, Slash and Duff about how to split the publishing rights.
