I was watching a documentary about Mark Robson the other day. Have heard his name but never really knew much about him. Amongst his favourite rock bands are GNR, LED Zep, Nine Inch Nails. He’s super talented and recently produced the latest Queens of the Stone Age album. Of course he’s also famous for producing Lady Gaga, Amy Winehouse and dj’ing.

After hearing the leaks and seeing this documentary and his incredible talent I’d love to see what he could do with GNR either for a new album or bringing Acls three album vision to reality.

Who else does everyone think here would be the right person to produce GNR?

I think Slash likes RATM so maybe Costanzo could be alright. If they are doing hard rock maybe Brendan OBrien would be good. Evil Empire meets Rock or Bust. Evil Bust.

He should've been brought in 20 years ago to wrap the damn thing up.

He basically doesn’t produce anymore so not sure if that’s in the cards.

Quite possibly Clink and get that Geffen stamp on the back of the cd.

I liked Libertad, there was a broader spectrum of songs, that could captured GNR. He also did Evil Empire and Rock or Bust. They are cuter than CD. CD turned out like an Back in Sgt Peppers. It’s shaped like a 90s hard rock album but has prog rock wiring.

Pretty much. I was excited for Libertad when I heard they were working with Brendan, and then it came out sounding like a Liberturd...

Mike Clink is the guy who brought out the best sounds of GN’R in the studio. He most definitely should be involved.

But, as with every poor decision GN’R seem to make these days, he probably won’t be involved...

Not sure on this one... On the one hand Mike Clink seems obvious - but has the guy been working the last few decades?

The other factor we don't know that is a biggie is the way in which this album is constructed. If it is Duff and Slash pasting parts into already written and arranged material, I'd wager production per se is not as crucial . I think it becomes more about who and how it is mixed that is crucial in that scenario. As in, choices made as to what stays and what goes of the many many layers that likely exist etc... So the mixing (Andy Wallace?) becomes the crucial aspect

If they are taking a more traditional approach - the band in a room recording etc... then a producers role becomes much more influential.

As to producers out there now - Dave Sitek, Michael Beinhorn, Brendon O'Briien, Rick Rubin, Andy Wallace , Dave Jerden
