Does this photograph really prove that we are not alone in the universe?

Images beamed back from Mars would suggest so - although to sceptics, it could just be a strange rock formation.

NASA's Mars Explorer Spirit sent back images from the surface of the Red Planet four years ago, and there was initial disappointment among scientists that they lacked any signs of life.

But space and science fiction enthusiasts are convinced there is more than meets the eye, and after years of studying the images, have found what appears to be an alien figure walking downhill.

The discovery of the life-like figure ambling across the surface of the planet is likely to further boost intrigue in our nearest neighbouring planet.

An earlier rock formation, dubbed "the face of Mars" showed what appeared to be a human head staring into the night sky.

The pictures, found on a Chinese website, are now creating a stir of excitement on the internet.

One keen stargazer said: "These pictures are amazing. I couldn't believe my eyes when I looked and saw what appears to be a naked alien running around on Mars."

NASA's Mars Explorer Spirit is now starting its fourth year of exploration.

Rovers are deployed because it has so far been too costly and difficult to achieve a manned mission to Mars, and because probes and satellites are too limited to explore the Martian surface.

The Spirit rover was launched on June 10, 2003.

I know skeptics will say its shadows or rocks, but there are just way too many shadows and rocks that coincidentally look like humans or man made objects.

We gotta go there sometime in the near future and finally get an answer to the question.

I can't say that I am convinced by the images but I do believe there is very much a chance that life exists on Mars and/or other planets.  It's a very egocentric idea to think that all these planets that exist in the solar system are only there for our viewing amusement.  Everything serves a purpose.  I would not be surprised that within our lifetimes evidence of other lifeforms on other planets becomes a reality rather than a hypothesis.

The illusion if falling apart, fast.

I give it 5 years before full disclosure is the only option left. It seems you can't even step inside the air force without being told to 'shut up' about things you see. Myself I saw some fucked up shit not long ago.

It's definitely out there.

These pics are pretty damn close to a smoking gun, and is even more intriguing than the "Face" pic. Whats amazing is they have sat on these pictures for years.

A manned mission is a bit too costly right now with what is going on economically, but some sort of probe needs to be sent there that can release drones(like those used in Afghanistan and Iraq) and fly them close to the ground for very long durations of time.

A tiny little rover moving a foot a day isn't going to cut the mustard.

If we look hard enough. we're going to find something.

Re: Life on Mars?? Starting to look that way...

I don't know with all the photoshpping these days, it's so hard to know if what's in the the pic is even authentic.  Could be a alien, could a rock formation.   Bascially more pics need to be taken or video to make more of a case.

The surface of mars is sterile.  With little atmosphere, radiation exposure would destroy life on the surface.  While I'm not discounting the possible of bacteria or other similar life forms below the surface, humanoids are not present on the surface of mars.  The whole face on mars pic has been proven just a mirage just as I'm sure this "woman" is as well.  I want the Vulcans to land as much as anyone else, but intelligent life only exists on one planet in this solar system.

Would it be possible for intelligent life forms to adapt to the surface/atmosphere of Mars at all?

That's not saying that there wasn't life on Mars at some point in the past, and this is just a survivor of all that.

I'm sure an intelligent civilization could adapt, but there'd be architecture ala Total Recall to support such a civilization.  You certainly wouldn't see a "sasquatch" type creature walking down a martian slope.  I'm not saying intelligent life doesn't exist in the universe (I believe it does) or that it may have one time existed on Mars ( Mars was once very similar to Earth), but there is no intelligent life on Mars now.

I don't even know if there is a Mars. So whatever.
