It might not be new, but I bet it was at least one of the tons of categories that exist but would never have gotten mentioned in a press release before. With the popularity of bands like Mumford and Sons and a few others right now they just brought it to the forefront a little more.
What's probably my favorite album that came out this year I would guess would be considered Americana, but way too small of a release to get attention from something like this.
What's your favorite from this year? I'd be interested in checking it out.
Ha. I immediately wanted to back off that statement a little after I typed it, but it's at least in my top few. I mentioned it because I was trying to think what I would classify Americana as... and I'd basically say music with acoustic guitars and banjos that you can't really call country.
This album and how much I dig it immediately came to mind.

Maybe not the best description. It's just that apart from White I don't know any of those artists.
