Re: Argument: CD-era Lies EP
I got to thinking what sort of a release I'd like to see, if any. Came up with the notion that a release comparable to Lies would be optimal in this situation. The band could toss out the best four unreleased songs from the CD sessions and throw together a B-side with covers like Sailing & Whole Lotta Rosie and two top remixes from CD. Better would deserve a another shot, for one.
Do the whole thing digitally for a few reasons. For one, the amount of casual listeners would be greater if they could just get the tracks online. Secondly, a full-on digital release would get a bit of a media buzz, and it would also come across as a decidedly "in-between" release instead of a follow-up album to CD.
It would introduce the current band to the mainstream audience, get the CD vaults out of the way and give them a chance to start afresh with a new album. If Axl wants to move on, he needs to move on from both AFD and CD.
Of course, this is just wish-fulfilment, as there was a time when we used to wait for an album, now we just hope they'd do one

Re: Argument: CD-era Lies EP
Personally I don't want remixes as I like the CD versions, and I'd like to see the band move forward in the CD era rather than re-creating the same album again.
But I'd love new tracks, or a covers EP with Sailing or some of the other covers would hit the spot nicely.

i've said it before 100 times:
itunes live session
especially if it had been one of the club gigs, like the paris show for example.

Re: Argument: CD-era Lies EP
I'd be all for it.
This seems like the most logical step before a new album. Get the current band out there and showing their skills on record. It's the only way! Recording during the Vegas shows needs to happen. Clear the vault either with b-sides or an album full of session work. The Brian Wilson Smile Sessions approach would be perfect for the CHINESE vault. I'll say it again! The die-hards will eat it up. I agree with Monkey that I personally like the CD songs the way they are; but some of them deserved to be fixed up. Russ's remix of Better was a great example to show what could of been. I listened to both versions of the song and his remix was superior.
Re: Argument: CD-era Lies EP
I used to be a big supporter of Izzy going digital-only because it allowed him the freedom to release year-after-year without the hassle of labels and management. However, times have changed since Izz first went digital only and nowadays there are companies printing CDs-on-demand and sending direct to customers (including Amazon no less).
Years ago a digital-only release was a big "fuck you" to the industry and labels, and in my opinion worthy of that media buzz it received. Nowadays I think it's just a little lazy to be honest. Whatever works for the artist I suppose, and unfortunately in GNR's case its the label who dictates their next release I honestly believe that the sooner Guns are free from their label the better.
