One of Beck's most celebrated albums turns 10 years old today. I was hoping to pick this album up the other day since it was in a Barnes & Nobles and it was quite tempting; but I didn't have enough money on me to buy it. Plus I'm running out of room on the shelves of my music and movie collection holder. 
They also had a copy of Modern Guilt and Odelay and some of his EPs. I bought some of his songs from Modern and Guero on iTunes about a week ago. Next time I go back there I'm going to pick up Sea and Odelay and listen to that good music!

I actually haven't listened to it either; but I've trying to search for most of his albums for the past couple of months either on CD, mp3/mp4 format or vinyl. I've been told that it's a masterpiece and it's probably one of his best albums. It's tough because he has some great material that's all over the place. Rolling Stone gave it a five star review and they don't do that much for artists like him. The album itself are a number of songs that deal with heartbreak and the lost of love and going through the changes of life that he was going through during that time. The music video for Lost Cause if you see it on youtube is truly a work of art. Beck Hansen is a genius! If it's extremely rare and comes with some good shit with the vinyl then I would take that $50 deal. Especially since I rarely see any of his work on vinyl anymore in stores. The CD version was like $12 when I saw it last time. Dude...that Odelay deluxe vinyl edition you told me about weeks ago is still extremely tempting. GO FOR IT! I haven't been disappointed in the work he has done so far.

never really cared for Sea Change tbh. never hooked me the way other great break-up records did - specifically Blood on the Tracks/Heartbreaker etc.

but the fact it turns 10 is just more fuel to my starting to feel old. hard to believe. 10yrs is a long time

Finally got around to purchasing and listening to this album today. Bought it yesterday since I got a small iTunes gift card for Christmas in my stocking this year and I couldn't find it in stores besides one about an hour away from my house. $9.99 was totally worth it. Music has a ton of depth and amazing performances. Highly recommend it. I don't consider this just an ultimate break up album; but pieces of music that goes through a lively vibe and is very sincere; but isn't all over the place. Some great songs to chill and relax to as well.
Some other cuts Beck has released in the past couple of years that aren't on a full album that I would recommend purchasing that have a Sea Change vibe would be Looking for a Sign from the soundtrack to Jeff, Who Lives At Home (which is an ok flick, song is 99 cents), and the digital & vinyl single, I Just Started Hating People Today/Blue Randy. Which is about less than $2 on iTunes if you just want to download it.

I have I Just Started Hating Some People Today on 45 from the Third Man Studio. Is the original version on Sea Change?
Nope it's a brand new song Beck recorded in a few days with his backing band. Then he released in on Jack White's label. Later it was released on his website and iTunes. That track and Blue Randy will sound amazing on a turn table. It has a laid back slow country style; but of course with Beck's choice of words & tongue & cheek in song writing. Plus..it was a good deal no doubt. I think there are a few songs from Sea that he wrote back in '95; but he re-recorded and added more depth to the song's lyrics and production before the album was released. He released a book of sheet music that customers can pick up and use to record the pieces of music in their own way which I found very interesting. Hopefully he releases a full album with a more upbeat sound sometime soon; but if he wants to go in this laid back direction with using his signature elements on a couple of tracks. Then I don't have a problem with that either. Modern Guilt has some killer songs on there. Sea Change is sort of a concept album; but it doesn't have to be one where you only put in on when you feel down. I bought it and played the tracks when I was in a calm & reflective mood. The man has some great talents; but he doesn't over complicate his music which I respect. Enjoy yourself dude!
