Re: Axl & Billy Corgan? Who would you like to see Axl collaborate with?

I started thinking who would be fun and explosive to have Axl to collaborate and write songs.

I came with 5 writers.

Doyle Bramhal II (Played with Roger Waters, Sheryl Crow, Clapton... could be a great source of blues based solos and melodies)
Fiona Apple (Would kill to see Axl collaborate with a woman on a duet of some kind)
Tom Petty (and Mike Campbell - they write great harmonies and song structures, would be great to have Axl come up with melodies and lyrics to that kind of laid back southern rock for a change)
Jack White (not because of the Bridge benefit, but the "traditional weirdness" Jack brings to the table could bring some interesting things out of Axl)
Trent Reznor (yes, I think they could collaborate. I think Trent's music lacks that larger than life feeling sometimes, that Axl could bring with melodies and some lyrics. I'm a fan of both of them, so this could be a guilty pleasure smile )

And what about you, who would you like to see partnering with Axl?

I think it's one of Axl's secret wishes to be able to collaborate with Trent Razor since he is fan of NIN. Dude..me and my friend were blasting Jack's album in the car yesterday and the guys that were going through my mind to collaborate with him were Axl, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, and a few others. 11 Jerry Cantrell would be very interesting to hear with Axl's voice. Good suggestion with Tom Petty. Do I really need to say it...Elton John. 16 Tommy Shaw and members of Styx. That's all I can think of at the moment.

As for Billy, that would sound really interesting. Even though it would be clash of the egos so to speak. I think they could pull off some great songs if they worked at it and used the best of their abilities.

Billy Corgan would be awesome. But I'm not sure the universe could take the strain of their egos in one room.

Axl's tragedy is that all of the people he admired and wanted to work with in the '90s were reacting against GN'R and hated him. Wasn't his original ambition to do a solo album with Reznor and Dave Grohl? And when it was put to them in a magazine interview they LOL'd. There's an echo of that in his hiring Finck for GN'R.

I’ve talked to Trent about working with me on an industrial synth project, at least on one song... - Axl, Hit Parader, 93
