Re: When's Album?

Current situation:

- No clear deal with label
- Beta managing band
- 22 tracks from the CD sessions
- Band has recorded material and is compiling tracks.

Summation: Go figure. Another tour, then maybe. Again.

“It took a long time, but now it's working, and I think we'll have the right record, and when we do drop the record, the plan is to drop the record, have a bunch of extra tracks, about a year or so down the road drop another record and drop a third record. This is a three-stage thing and we'll be touring for a real long time.” Axl Rose (November 2002)

"We're working on 32 songs, and 26 are nearly done.” Axl Rose (January 2006)

"It's actually four records. He's got four albums worth of material.” Sebastian Bach (October 2007)

I was like, “when is this coming out?”... and he said "2012". I was like dude… your killin me! He goes, "well this comes out on the third record... it relates to this song, it’s a trilogy… this goes with this lyrically." Sebastian Bach (November 2007)

"For now, we’ll concentrate and keep our focus on this album, but I will say I’ve always thought of it as a double. And no offense, but no one’s trying to talk in parables. The issues are a bit more complex than anyone would like." Axl Rose (December 2008)

"No, maybe same bat time, same bat channel next year but we’ll have to see." Axl Rose (“I know this is jumping the gun big time, but any tentative idea when you would like to see the next CD come out?” – December 2008)

“Have no idea and don't care. Hopefully, we'll be working 'Chinese' for a good bit. Of course there's the same idiots that have been around forever already demanding release dates.” Axl Rose (“When’s the next album?” - February 2009)

“Not as much as Baz [Sebastian Bach] thinks he heard! Really, it doesn't matter. If things go well enough, we'd like to get another out at some point in our lifetimes.” Axl Rose (“How much material is there?” – February 2009)

“Depends how you look at it.” Axl Rose (“Is anything finished?” – February 2009)

“Not something we've focused on.” Axl Rose (“How do you look at it?” – February 2009)

“You got that? What I can say is if you don't like this, then you probably won't like that. Same people, lots more approaches, bit meaner in places and darker in some. Robin does a really great Stevie Ray Vaughan-type solo on one track.” Axl Rose (“You're not saying much.” – February 2009)

2010

“Another person who’s partied with Rose says he’s working on a new album after last year’s disappointing “Chinese Democracy” — the first Guns N’ Roses studio album in 15 years — and has something to prove.” Brian Niemietz (March 2010)

"[DJ Ashba] played [a song] for me back in 2010 when we were on tour with GUNS N' ROSES. He goes, 'Listen to this...'  He wrote it for Axl, to be [used by] GUNS. It's the most badass fucking riff — one of the coolest songs I've ever heard." - Sebastian Bach

“Dj Ashba and Dizzy Reed confirm that new songs for a new Guns N’ Roses record are being written. “It might come out in 2011”, says Ashba. “We’ve been very busy touring the last years, but we write new songs. As far as I can judge, it’s gonna be an incredible good record”, the guitarist says.” Dj Ashba and Dizzy Reed (May 2010)

“They (Dj and Dizzy) were misquoted in the translation – they would “like” to do a new album, but that’s the extent of it…” Bumblefoot (June 2010)

“We’ve been throwing around a bunch of ideas,” he said, “and it should be good.” “Axl has a lot of good shit up his sleeves, so I’m really excited about it,” Ashba explained, “It won’t take as long – I promise.” Dj Ashba (November 2010)

“We’ve yet to get in a room and write as a band – know Dj mentioned something about a new album, but don’t want y’all expecting anything soon – other than old unreleased Chi Dem songs, songs need to be written, jammed, recorded, tweaked, re-worked, re-recorded, mixed, re-mixed, mastered, re-mastered, art, new art label approval, a game plan from the label that Ax approves….not as simple when it’s such a big scale…” Bumblefoot (November 2010)

2011

"There is enough music for another two albums, but these are all 10 year old recordings from the Chinese Democracy sessions." Bumblefoot (March 2011)

“Richard Fortus hopes the album “is gonna get released very soon”. Dj is “looking forward” to recording new material.” Richard Fortus and Dj Ashba (April 2011)

“Wouldn’t that be something??? Ya never know. Crossin my fingers.” Tommy Stinson (“New GN’R album?” – April 2011)

"Axl has a lot of great songs up his sleeve," Ashba said. "He probably has three albums worth of stuff recorded." Dj Ashba (May 2011)

“Working on the new Guns record.” Dj Ashba (“with Axl” - May 2011)

“GN’R is taking some time off right now.” Dizzy Reed (May 2011)

“I think the next thing is really going to have to be someone trying to organize a record and getting it together. I think there’s a really good band there to do it. But, you know, the thought of it is more daunting than a “Mats or a Soul Asylum record combined.” Tommy Stinson (May 2011)

"Yes, I'm writing a lot." Dj Ashba ("Are you writing things for GN'R?" - June 2011)

If all that isn’t reason enough to hire a full time assistant just to pinch the man on an hourly basis, Ashba is also the guitarist for legendary rockers, Guns N’ Roses, who are currently gearing up for more tour dates and another album. Metalholic (June 2011)

"I pray to God one day people get to hear what he has up his sleeve, because me being a fan for one, but the shit is just awesome. And I can't wait to get in and work on some stuff with him. And I know he's really excited to get in a room, too, so I think us together, we're gonna do a lot of damage. And this band he's put together is just incredible musicians — I mean, top-notch players. He definitely put together an amazing band and he has, like, three albums' worth of shit up his sleeve that's just gonna floor people. I'm really excited about it. And I've been writing around the clock, constantly sending him songs, too. So it's good; it's really good." Dj Ashba (June 2011)

"No. I mean, what people don't realize is 'Chinese' didn't take 15 years. He literally has, like, four albums' worth of… I mean, he has tons and tons of songs. So whenever he feels like, OK, this is what he wants to release next… It's his call, it's his vision, so I'm just here to do whatever I can to bring that vision to life for him, or with him." Dj Ashba (June 2011)

"Axl has so many songs up his sleeve from the ‘Chinese Democracy’ era. He has three albums of really amazing stuff. He’s played me quite a bit of it, it’s really good. I’ve been demoing tons of stuff in my studio; I think the ultimate goal is to sit down and go through everything, and put together what he feels would be the next best thing for Guns N’ Roses. I’ll do whatever I can to help him meet that vision." Dj Ashba ("Has Guns N' Roses been recording any new material?" - June 2011)

Stinson says Guns haven't begun working on a follow-up to "Chinese Democracy," but still have material left over from the last sessions. "We haven't recorded in a while and I don't see us doing so in the near future; we have those upcoming dates." Tommy Stinson (August 2011)

- NewGnRnOldGnR

"Once I get the next things sorted out with the label, then I feel I can get to that creative place that I've been fighting to get to, and to use Guns N' Roses to do so," he says." - Axl, 12/20/11

"Looking ahead, Stinson says the hope is to write new songs next year and move forward with GNR, which is nominated for entry into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2012. There are songs left over from the "Chinese Democracy" sessions that are almost ready to go, he says, and could be polished up for potential release." - Tommy, 11/30/11

"We're working on 32 songs, and 26 are nearly done," he says. Of those, 13 are slated for the final album. - Axl, 2006

"Stinson says that there’s “a bunch” of GNR material written and still waiting to be recorded - “some of it worthy of finishing, some of it probably not” - in addition to 22 songs recorded during the “Chinese Democracy” process that were not included on the album." - Tommy, 11/13/11

"There's talk of doing some recording in the new year, getting some songs together. But that's just talk." - Tommy, 11/30/11

"We're gonna be busy - we're gonna be busy all next year. We'll be putting out new stuff as soon as we can figure out what our deal is with labels, blah blah blah." - Axl, 12/20/11

2012

"'There are some clamoring and rumors that we might be getting some material together here after we do this little (theater) run, so we'll see what happens,' Reed says." - Dizzy, 02/14/12

"I’ll be out with Guns in May, June and July and then we have to finish up some more recording and hopefully get the record out and be on tour in the fall in the States I’m hoping." - Fortus, 04/23/12

"Now I must start getting my shit together for the European GNR tour. I’ll be looking forward to working up some new long over due GNR rock soon." - Tommy, blog, 04/30/12

"When this tour ends, Frank (drums) and Tommy (bass) and I plan to get together and start writing some new music. Hopefully nothing will get in the way of doing that." - Bumblefoot, 06/07/12

"(The next album) will come out sooner [than CD]... All the guys are writing, and we recorded a lot of songs over the years. We'll figure out what we feel best about. Chinese was done in piecemeal with one person here and one there at different times. Appetite for Destruction was the only thing written with lyrics and melody fitting the guitar parts at the same time... I do want to lean more toward lyrics and melody." - Axl, 10/30/12

2013

"Once the tour is over, Guns N' Roses will turn their focus to working on a seventh album. Despite dozens of songs in rough form, the band are in no hurry - but there won't be another decade-long delay. "It won't be another Chinese Democracy but then again we're in no rush to make a bad record," says Ashba." - DJ, Yahoo, 01/23/13

"You know what?! Just forget about a new record until it happens. I mean, I can't even begin… How long have we been talking about a new fucking record? And I'm the only that doesn't bullshit you people about it and I say, no, we haven't been in the studio together; no, we haven't started writing together as a band.

If something came out at this point, it would be very old material that is just being released now. So it would be unheard material, but to me, I don't consider that a new record, I consider that just releasing old material from a band that doesn't exist anymore. And we need to make an album of this band right now. And I hit up Axl again two days ago. I was, like, 'Hey, while we're in Australia, let's make some music. Let's work on some stuff.' But we'll see what happens." - Bumblefoot, 03/02/13

"Guitarist Richard Fortus has confirmed to Noise11.com news that the band was spent a lot of time in the studio working on the next album and that many of the songs have been completed. Fortus, who is also the guitarist for Australia’s The Dead Daisies, told Noise11 that while the album has mostly been completed it won’t be released this year but maybe in 2014." - Fortus, Noise11, 05/05/13

"There's a lot of stuff, it's just a question of all of us organizing. We're still doing shows, and I think once we clear our schedule and focus more on new music, it'll happen. We just have little things on the back burner, just waiting for the right time for us to organize and make something new out of it. Hopefully we can make more music – that's what it's about." - Bumblefoot, Rolling Stone, 05/08/13

"We were supposed to start writing after the end of this last run – but I went to India! When I get back, I hope we can all get together, and live it and focus on creating new music together. Fans don’t want to hear about new shows, they want to hear about new music." - Bumblefoot, Time Out Dubai, 02/07/13

"Generally speaking, at this time we have no information on tours, albums, or DVDs. When things get confirmed we will let you know. Thank you for your patience." - GnR Facebook & Twitter, 08/06/13

"Right now, things are a bit on hold as far as playing... Well, I think they're getting tracks together." - Dizzy, Noise11, 11/18/13

"We're working on new stuff now... So far, everything is good. Actually, Guns wanted to be touring right now, in South America. And... I'd already committed to this [Dead Daisies Australian tour], so we needed to postpone that. Next year. But I'm hoping that we get an album out very soon." - Fortus, Noise11, 11/18/13

2014

"We recorded a lot of things before Chinese was out. We've worked more on some of those things and we've written a few new things. But basically, we have what I call kind of the second half of Chinese. That's already recorded. And then we have a remix album made of the songs from Chinese. That's been done for a while, too. But after Vegas [Guns N' Roses performed a residency at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino that ran through early June], we're going to start looking very seriously at what we're doing in that regard." (Axl, Revolver Magazine, 05/14)

"Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose has trademarked the name Stay of Execution [on June 6th, 2014]." (Alternative Nation, 04/02/15)

"DJ and I've worked on stuff, nobody's worked on stuff with Ron, but yeah... What'll [Axl]'ll do is that he'll take a little piece that I sent, he'll take a little piece that DJ sent on another track... He'd take a little piece of this, and a little piece of that, and they put it together... He's got a real talent for that.

Some of them he's working on as we're here, 'cause I know in this week, he's recording a lot of stuff, vocals, yeah... Some of the stuff Slash did, you know, that was like the beginning, the seed of the song, that's been around for a while." (Fortus, Guitar Workshop, 11/20)

"We're gonna be doing stuff next year. There's… We're not gonna have anything out this year. Yeah… Next year…. Next year, it should be out. And we'll be touring." (Fortus, Stormbringer.at, 06/06)

If they could get a real A&R guy who works soley with the label, and give Beta the manager title, that could work. But I still think she'd burn a lot of bridges.

Record company should just take a punt and give Axl complete control over the creation of the next album, music and artwork. Give him a strict limited budget and tell him to get on with it. Whatever he comes up with at least he'll be fully behind it. I trust he'll do a good job. He seems in a pretty good place at the moment.

Ever since I read about Beta being their new manager, I keep thinking the same thing; this is gonna be all or nothing. As early as it is in this latest revelation, I believe that next year will see either the true re-birth of GN'R or the absolute death. I don't think there's gonna be a middle-ground.

Quoted for "nailed it" truth.

I absolutely agree, and it will especially be telling with GN'R at the RNRHOF.

I truely think we'll look back on 2012 as the year GN'R was reborn or GN'R died, forever.

And you're absolutely right. I don't see the current setup continuing anymore, for as much as Beta would want it too.

If Beta pulls her bullshit, and no album happens, I guarantee you Tommy will quit, and if Tommy quits, watch the rest of the new guys follow, other than maybe DJ & Dizzy.

Axl will be forced next year. Reunite or new album, and FUCKING NOW. Not tomorrow, not "when you feel like it", NOW.

And I think with those choices, he'll just quit music.

If it goes badly I don't think Axl would hesitate getting someone else and I highly doubt Beta would quit, or at least, it wouldn't last very long. Where's she and her brood going to go?
