MÖTLEY CRÜE's Drum Roller Roaster Is Coming To U.K. - Nov. 11, 2011
MÖTLEY CRÜE has announced that Tommy Lee will bring his mind-blowing 360-degree drum roller coaster to the U.K. for the band's December co-headline tour with DEF LEPPARD.
The wonders of the wheel will be spectacularly unveiled during Tommy Lee's thrilling drum solo where he is launched into multiple loops and pyrotechnics while continuing to perform.
Not one to keep the fun to himself, the drummer also handpicks a fan from the audience to join him for his crazy ride at every show.
Commented Lee: "This idea came about from when I was a kid going to concerts. Whenever the drummer started his drum solo, I wondered why people would leave to go get a beer, buy a t-shirt, restroom, whatever!! I wanted to show people what happens behind the drum set, so I decided to expose it all by flipping the drums vertical, upside-down making them disappear and fly over the audience's heads! MÖTLEY CRÜE brings you on a thrill ride, jump on the 360! Let's do this! By the way, it's really fucking difficult playing while on this ride!"
MÖTLEY CRÜE wrapped one of summer's biggest rock tours as headliners and honorees for the Sunset Strip Music Festival (SSMF) live on Sunset Boulevard on August 20. The show, a combination of classic hit songs, massive pyro and fireworks displays, state-of-the-art sound and visual effects — including "The 360" drum coaster, with electronic music sensation deadmau5 joining Tommy Lee for a ride — rocked over 15,000 fans. It marked the largest crowd ever for the SSMF.
MÖTLEY CRÜE's summer trek landed the group on the Billboard "Hot Tours" chart six times since the tour launch, marking it as one of the legendary rock group's most successful tours to date. The 48-city trek tour — which launched on June 24 and wrapped last month — was one of the summer's highest grossing, packing amphitheaters and arenas all summer long, drawing half a million fans.
