Nice of them, but I think Jani would disapprove of their "Cherry Pie" reference.  Unless he changed his tune, and I think he DID over the years, he hated that song with a passion.  As someone mentioned, he wanted to base that whole album around "Uncle Tom's Cabin", but the record company needed a "single".  They came up with "Cherry Pie" in like ten minutes and became known for that and that alone.

I think Jani says it all here...

That last part is just totally eerie. Holy hell. And I don't think it was just Cherry Pie, even though it probably represented a lot of things in his head. But it's got to be a total mind fuck to be a huge band, popular and relevent and then be plunged into obscurity like Warrant was. They literally went from playing stadiums to playing bars. Poor guy. sad

I think it's better to embrace it than to hate it, play it to your own benefit, but I understand what he's saying.

Yeah I remember that "HEAVY: The Story of Metal" doc, and Jani's comments were VERY serious. You could tell he'd probably stared at a gun or a bottle or a knife before and thought "fuck it". Because of his legacy and that horrendously awful song. Makes Shotgun Blues look like Pandora's Box.

But like Russ I had also heard in recent years that Jani recanted and embraced the song, once it dawned on him how much he would be remember across the world for a song and how many people had heard it.

At the time I think Jani made those comments on the VH1 doc, Jani was still doing that "i've got a Chinese Democracy" in me, and really despised that song.

His story later changed, but it was obvious it still tormented him. Cherry Pie was a total 'sellout' moment, and Warrant has FAR better songs in their catalog, so I don't blame him.

Sad, RIP.  Yeah I heard the Cherry Pie story, always seemed like the record company basically asked them to rewrite "Pour Some Sugar On Me", "Elevator" is a probable reference too.

I meant to post this a long time ago, but I listened to this song a while ago, and began to wonder if ever there was a rumor or talk it was about a girl he knew getting together with Axl (ie "Red").  Doubt it, but it crossed my mind. Just looked it up on wikipedia, it's supposedly about walking in on a girl with his friend. Pretty good song regardless.

I can see how that would be majorly frustrating....when now he's remembered for a song he wrote as an off the cuff thing to shut someone else up.

Then again...to be honest...I think Cherry Pie was the first time I'd ever heard of Warrant out here....so there must be people that got into his more serious songs because they first heard Cherry Pie.

RIP Jani.. I won't admit it in public but "Heaven" has always been a song I really enjoyed listening too.

Addiction is a bitch.. wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

In watching that interview clip I suppose I can see his regret.  He could have stuck to his guns & integrity & gone a mroe Tesla/Black Crowes/Queensryche route, who while in the late 80's early 90's metal era, still are thought of as more respected.  Probably would have still died out & not survived grune & alternative, but would have held his head a little higher too. Unlike the guy from Poison & doesn't seem to be able to just live with it.

Nice "journal-like" bio.

It's always interesting to read how people see themselves. I had no clue he was married THREE times. I always thought he was with "Boobi" Brown (as I used to constantly, unintentionally call her as a kid).

I also didn't know he had more than the one girl. All I ever knew of was the girl with Bobbi.

I think the best thing he said, and lesson we can all take is the "If you only talk" thing, which of course is a classic one.

I try to remind myself of that sometimes. I can get a bit Axlmaniacal at times, just from pure confidence (not arrogance), but not all people see it that way. Sometimes you gotta reel it back in and take a day off, and let other people take life's stage and have their moment.
