Slash to Be Honored by Guns n’ Roses Alumni at Road Recovery Benefit
by: Amy Sciarretto

Some of Slash‘s oldest and dearest friends, namely his bandmates Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum of Velvet Revolver/Guns N’ Roses and fame, will honor the guitar deity at the upcoming Road Recovery Benefit concert. This charity event will be held on Sept. 13 at the Best Buy Theater located in the heart of Times Square in New York City.
Former Gunner Gilby Clarke and MC5′s Wayne Kramer will also be on hand to celebrate with Slash. So why are these classic rockers congregating in the Big Apple next month? Well, because Road Recovery is a non-profit that works with at-risk kids, that’s why!

100% of the funds raised at the gig will be used directly in treating children and young adults facing a myriad of problems, including addiction, physical and sexual abuse and/or chronic illness. Tickets are on sale as of today.

In other Sorum news, the drummer has debuted his art collection, which was inspired by his drumsticks; that’s a true case of art imitating life.

“I never considered myself an artist in that form until it was brought to my attention that it could be done,” Sorum said in an interview with Noisecreep. “You know the sticks relate to brush strokes… Great artists have a different feel from each other, nobody is similar, everyone has a different take on things and it comes through in the movement.”

Five visual pieces comprise the collection. 130 drafts will be signed, numbered and sold. The collection will be available for viewing this September in both American and European galleries.

(hennemusic) It's not all of Guns N' Roses circa 1992, but it's close. As this year's Road Recovery honoree at their annual concert in New York City next month, Slash will be performing with former GNR members Matt Sorum, Duff McKagan and Gilby Clarke, as well as Wayne Kramer and more, to support the charity.
Road Recovery is dedicated to helping young people battle addiction and other adversities by harnessing the influence of entertainment industry professionals who have confronted similar crises and now wish to share their experience, knowledge, and resources.

With support from the mental health field, Road Recovery provides hands-on mentorship training, educational/performance workshops, peer-support networking, and "all access" to real-life opportunities by collaborating with young people to create and present live-concert events.
