Re: Rogers Bayfest 2011
the wife and i went to a music festival last night
4 bands for $30
Affinity (insigned Band from Toronto ... female singer in the same vein as evanesscence i suppose) they were not bad actually and later on we actually met them walking arounf the festival grounds so we had a breif chat with them...check out their site if you are into rock acts with chick singers http://www.affinityband.net/ you can play their single "Discord" on there
Next Act was Windsor Ontario base The Tea Party...wicked wicked band they have actually been broken up for a few years and this is their reunion tour...anyway they are amazing band you should check them out for sure no questions asked..i hear they will be recornding a new album together but i guess its kinda up in the air at the moment...anywa check these tunes out
Third on was Theory of a Deadman....i know typical nickleback clone most peopel say...anyway i dont disagree but they still have a few good tunes imo, but pretty boring showmanship i must say, dude jsut kinda stood there the whole time and played guitar and sing...it sounded good but was boring to watch
closing was INXS with JD Fortune they started out ok if you are into their music at all...JD was kinda trying to copy a mixture HUtchensce and Wieland though....then they did New Sensation with a female singer and turned it to a country tune...from there is jsut kinda went from bad to worse so we took off a little bit early
but 4 bands for $30 is really good in this day and age and all we went to see was tea party and they stole the show IMO so thats alright
funniest part...aside from The Tea Party...the biggest pop of the night came when Theory of A Deadman borke into PAradise CIty....they jsut played the intro and opening riff but the entire crowd was singing clear as day along to it

Re: Rogers Bayfest 2011
I think JD has an impossible job though.
My sister was a huge INXS nut and growing up aside from the big tours I also saw them at a very small venue at a secret gig. Hutchense had an impossible level of chrisma, sex appeal, stagecraft, poetic lyrics and a damn fine voice.
I'm not massively into pop rock like that anymore but credit where it's due the guy had a truck load of natural talent. JD is kinda a clone but then he also needs to be I think....bottom line for me is that a bit like GNR - most people sound terrible trying to cover INXS - but JD does a fairly reasonable job in that he nails it enough that it's not outright offensive. hahah. I was actually surprised at how decent a couple of the tracks on the Switch album he did with them were too. On his original stuff with them his singing voice blended into their style a lot more.
But overall I understand what you mean - I saw them a couple of years back - and while it was a decent evening it's not at all like seeing Inxs was in 1987.
Tea party videos seem cool. I've been meaning to check them out - I have a mate that's really into them and he's always on about them - i might get on with it!
