If Fortus can play well in Lizzy, it's a testament to him. Replacing Viv campbell is an even taller order (in terms of performance chops) than replacing Slash. Slash is a huge icon no doubt and those leave huge boots to fill but Campbells playing and the playing of the original Lizzy members who wrote the parts is a bigger challenge skill wise imho

Richard Fortus order was to replace Izzy Stradlin - he failed.

Buckethead's order was to replace Slash - he succeeded.

What do you mean in these statements?

4tus can run circles around Izzy on guitar and will not compose music in the same vein. Its like comparing slash and bucket you just cant. Apples & Oranges. Bucket can play Slash while jerkin off but he wont/cant write like/better than him if slash is your taste.

I thought Richard replaced Tobias  who replaced Gilby who replaced Izzy? Or was it to have a 3rd guitar like Skynyrd because Finck replaced Tobias  who replaced Gilby who replaced Izzy and was replaced by DJ who looks and plays somewhat like slash while having his own sound and ability?

JR your lookin at current GnR as if it still fits in the AFD-91 to box

So JR in your BOX of thought does BBF replace Bucket? He is clearly multi talented but will never contribute like bucket/slash/izzy/tobias/tracii/gilby/finck/slash.  shit thats a list o folks! See how far removed the current GnR is from pre 91?

Too bad he can't fuckin' write.

'Cause he can't write. Where's Richard's countless studio albums? At least Izzy & Bucket are taking a shot at it.

In other words, Bucket is the better player, Slash writes catchier stuff.

None of the above. The ONLY popularized Guns N' Roses were the members who composed the AFD, Lies & UYI albums. Period, end of discussion.

Every rhythm guitarist associated with Guns since 1991 has been trying to replace Izzy Stradlin. Nobody has - yet.

Robin was meant to replace Slash - he also failed. Bucket was an "addition" to the makeup of the band. He's kind of his own thing.

I would NEVER "overestimate" the new Guns by doing something that ridiculous. Axl could've rebuilt GN'R with himself on vocals, Paul Rodgers on backing vocals/harmonies, Brian May on lead guitar 1, Zakk Wylde on lead guitar 2, Keith Richards on rhythm guitar, Gene Simmons on bass, Don Henley on drums, and the entire Rush band on various keyboards...

And he still wouldn't have gotten in the same universe as the old Guns. Some things are irreplaceable.

You can't date Carrie Underwood and replace her with Miley Cyrus.

Yes I see, but like I stated above, Bucket was kind of an isolated 'additional' to the makeup of Guns. Although I did state Bucket replaced Slash, it was kind of a fluke Axl 'acquired' such a talented guitarist. Robin was the intended replacement and he blew major chimp, specifically in comparison to Slash.

As for Bumble, he's a replacement directly related to Bucket, and no one else in the band before, present, or after, and on that level - Bumble failed. He does have a better rock-presentation than Bucket, better with the fans, and all that jazz. But he can't write anywhere even in the ballpark as Bucket. He just can't.

It'd take Bumble years to put out a solo album, that is the equivalent of some of Bucket's weaker albums. Bucket could put out a ton of albums, he has, and even Bucket's b-sides pretty much crush Bumble's stuff.

imho

Slash never has replaced Axl - Axl stands alone

Axl DID replace Slash - w/ Bucket - but it was a fluke, unintentional and like a non-roster invitee that suddenly makes the major league baseball club in Spring Training. Robin, the intended replacement, was a flame out who never lived up.

Axl never replaced Izzy - Izzy stands alone to this day

Axl DID replace Duff - w/ Thomas Eugene Stinson

Axl DID replace both of his drummers - Steven = Frank / Matt = Brain

and I don't really count the keyboardists. Dizzy is more of a Stones/Skynyrd, old-fashioned rock keyboardist, whereas Chris is the more modern, synth, pro tools, EFX kind of guy.

jmho

to be honest, i wouldn`t say buckethead is a better guitarist than slash. it`s a matter of definition though...   and buckets solo material is boring if you ask me. i don`t see the point in putting out every single peace of music that comes to mind even if it`s mediocre at best. but don`t get me wrong, he was one of the best things to happen to new gnr and axl blew it..

edit: bucket and slash...  apples and oranges;)

Regardless of the heavy amounts of just nothingness in Bucket's solo work, Padmasana destroys almost anything and everything any Guns member has ever done solo.
