GnR Fortus to join Thin Lizzy
Sunday, April 3rd, 2011
Viv Campbell reveals his replacement – as Rock in Rio confirm they’ll fine Axl if he starts festival show late
Guns n’Roses guitarist Richard Fortus played a few tracks with Thin Lizzy in Chicago last week – and he’ll join the band next month when Vivian Campbell returns to Def Leppard.
Campbell revealed the news after his final US appearance with Phil Lynott’s reactivated band, currently starring original-era members Scott Gorham, Brian Downey and Darren Wharton alongside Campbell, ex-Whitesnake bassist Marco Mendoza and ex-Almighty frontman Ricky Warwick.
Fortus will take over after Lizzy play at Slaine Castle, Ireland, on May 28. Campbell reports: “Well, that was it: my last US show with Lizzy – and it was a great one to end on. New guitarist Richard Fortus came and played a couple of songs.
“I have one final gig with them in Ireland, and the very next day we start Def Lep rehearsals.”
Leppard are going back to work after a year’s break, and planning to write a new album while they tour for the rest of 2011. The band will play two shows with Thin Lizzy and special guest Alice Cooper in Ireland, on June 7 and 8, ahead of their appearance at the UK Download festival on June 10 – but Campbell has already ruled himself out of playing two sets on those nights, saying: “My allegiance has to be to Def Leppard.”
Meanwhile, Fortus’ day-job band Guns n’Roses will face a hefty fine if they start their Rock in Rio festival headline slot late on October 2.

Beat me to it, I was just about to post that.
Good for Richard. Apparently the Thin Lizzy dates last through July. So maybe then it'll be time for a little rest and then put the focus back on GNR. You'd have to think something will happen before or around the Rio date.

Its a good lineup they have, of course Viv is a legendary player in his own right. Very weird that Viv is already leaving.... Didn't last long.

Well, he was always going to go back to Def Leppard once they reconvened. I'd venture to guess the paycheck is a little better.

Here's a tip - how about doing something with your actual band "Guns N' Roses" instead... too much to ask?

THIN LIZZY Recruits GUNS N' ROSES Guitarist For Upcoming Tour - Apr. 3, 2011
Legendary rockers THIN LIZZY have recruited GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Richard Fortus as the temporary replacement for Vivian Campbell, who will return to DEF LEPPARD next month.
Fortus joined THIN LIZZY on stage at the final gig of the band's U.S. tour on April 1 at Vic Theatre in Chicago (see video below) and will take over for Campbell after LIZZY's May 28 concert at Slaine Castle, Ireland. Campbell writes on his Facebook page, "Well, that was it: my last U.S. show with LIZZY — and it was a great one to end on. New guitarist Richard Fortus came and played a couple of songs. I have one final gig with them in Ireland, and the very next day we start DEF LEP rehearsals."
THIN LIZZY's latest reincarnation includes original-era members Scott Gorham, Brian Downey and Darren Wharton. Also on board are Campbell, former WHITESNAKE bassist Marco Mendoza and ex-THE ALMIGHTY frontman Ricky Warwick.
Re: GnR Fortus to join Thin Lizzy-Viv Campbell reveals his replacement
If Fortus can play well in Lizzy, it's a testament to him. Replacing Viv campbell is an even taller order (in terms of performance chops) than replacing Slash. Slash is a huge icon no doubt and those leave huge boots to fill but Campbells playing and the playing of the original Lizzy members who wrote the parts is a bigger challenge skill wise imho

I know you're just playing, but it's certainly not Richard's call on getting shit done on the GNR end. So he, like DJ, Ron, Chris, Tommy, Frank are doing other things in the meantime. GNR is obviously still the main meal ticket for them all, but as we all know too well, the work is sporadic. So the need to keep busy is there.
Maybe this is why Ron "replaced" Richard in Pisser?
