Like I said before, with everything going on with me, me showing up at this was gonna be a last nanosecond sort of thing.
And in true Axl-fashion - I was late.
And in true Slash-fashion - he didn't give a shit.
I actually missed most of "Ghost", but was seated for the last third of the song. Slash was great, bottom line is this guy is on fire, and is the ONLY guy on the planet that knows how to play these songs RIGHT.
General consensus about Myles was that he was "pretty good, but not Axl, but still pretty good".
He also doesn't have the stage presence, but i've seen worse.
Ending opinion about the whole thing...
Slash is the ONLY guy that knows how to play these songs right
Axl is the ONLY guy that knows how to sing these songs right...
You can figure out the rest. The outro to Paradise City...

Cool that you were there! ive got a few pix and a trip to share also may get around to it tonight or tommorow ..you didnt miss much with Ghost. It sounded nice but crowd was dead he started 15 mins early! Def an Ozzy crowd. 1000 miles round trip for me well worth it !
Re: Slash - Tampa, FL 2/18/2011
Very cool. I definitely feel that the Ozzy crowd only got a rise out of the Guns N' Roses songs. Most seemed totally disinterested in his new stuff and the VR stuff.
Sweet Child & Paradise City both got massive reactions, and probably the only Slash reactions that were comparable to Ozzy's hits.

I really dig Slash's setlist right now. Good choices. Myles has also gotten a lot better at singing the GN'R stuff over time, but obviously he still ain't Axl.

Axlin08, seems like you have finally come around... Live in person is so awesome to see Slash, and his current tone is beyond sick. Glad your enjoyed it. I like Myles cause he is always on time, never bitches, and is just happy to get the gig. Plus, he sings in key almost all the time, which is outstanding for the diversity of songs! And lets face it, Slash is the front man, Myles knows his role. Just a genuine good dude!
Re: Slash - Tampa, FL 2/18/2011
Thanks man, Slash definitely puts on a good show, and has an understated backing band, specifically in comparision to the new GN'R.
JR was that a guard, camera man or fan that ozzy hoased down ...like threw the bucket at and all..i was in 205 and couldnt tell
Guard, pretty sure. Not 100%.
Re: Slash - Tampa, FL 2/18/2011
Me either. He gets the job done, but something just is... missing.
I just think Myles voice is more suited for those post-grunge songs. I'm not even that crazy about Myles stuff on Slash's solo album, yet Slash wants him full-time for solo stuff, which is just plain weird. Half of the guest vocalists on Slash's solo album put out more memorable performances than Myles.
I like the guy, but... something with his voice just doesn't mix with Slash's bluesy guitar. You can't help but wish that Ian Astbury was there to sing Ghost, Scott Weiland for Slither, and Axl for just about everything else, including Back From Cali (that song aches for Axl on it).
Myles is the best 'small project' vocalist Slash has had, he destroys the Snakepit vocalists, for the most part Weiland, but you still can't help but....
Listen the bottom line is we're always gonna compare this guys to W. Axl Rose, and NO ONE is gonna compare. It's just not gonna happen.

I love Astbury's voice, but let's face it. History has proven that Axl's voice is perfect for Slash's guitar sound. A unique voice and unique guitar sound have never matched up so well IMHO. Myles is a great singer but he has zero business trying to sing My Michelle. Kind of embarrassing to hear him singing that song with that nasally high voice. A similar feeling occurs when you see Baz singing this track with Axl. Axl's voice is in great shape, so it sucks to see him giving up half of a great song to a singer that can't pull it off anywhere near as well as he can.
