Re: Would this guy be a good fit for VR?
His voice is so powerful... I could see Slash digging him.. But unsure of writing, range, etc...

Yeah, i'm a sucker for Shinedown, I gotta admit.
But like Saikin said, Brent Smith IS Shinedown. He's in a Trent Reznor-position, unopposed, unlike Axl and new Guns. His face and voice is the "band".
They established themselves as a revolving door band early on.

Not a fan of Shinedown's more recent stuff, but I like their earlier material. Smith has a great voice -- very unique.

I don't actually know this band..but they sound cool. Could seem him doing some good stuff with slash if it happened...although I also want someone with a megahigh range but thats just me!

Really? I thought Sound of Madness was their best album. I also liked their debut, but thought their second album was WEAK. Definitely a sophomore slump.

It was THE rock record in today's world. I firmly believe anyone that wants to market rock music in the future, including the older guys whether it be new Guns, Slash or a reunited Guns, Metallica, whoever... are gonna have to go in that direction with their music.
Even Alice In Chains started moving that direction, with a grunge-twist.
