to the OP, I actually kind of like the idea of Mark Ronson. He produced the last QOTSA album too
Yeah, that'd be fascinating, in a surreal sense.

Clink's resume obviously spotty but the proof is in the pudding.
Basically....
Break glass only in the event of impending GNR album.
Oneway.....now there's a name I haven't seen in a coon's age.
What's up, brother?:buckethead:

I’ve always thought it could be interesting to have them in the studio with Rick Rubin.
Definitely not Rubin. They don't need someone coming in once every two months, laying on the couch, and telling them to "write more."
Plus, his preferred "engineer," Greg Fidelman (the one who actually ends up doing all of the work), would make the record an ear-bleeding mess.
Brendan O'Brien would make them sound too polished, plus he'd want to play guitar or keyboards on every track, while "helping" them arrange the songs for maximum radio impact. Maybe you bring him or Andy Wallace in at the end as a "closer", of sorts, to re-mix a couple of the songs the label & band view as singles to prep them for radio.
I would maybe take a look at Nick Raskulinecz. He's done work for Rush, Foo Fighters, Alice in Chains, Stone Sour, Korn, Evanescence, among others. Yes, his albums have had the tendency to be dynamically compressed, his mixes can be muddy, and cymbals can sound bad. I'd truthfully ideally hire him as the Recording Engineer, and not the Producer, because he's ultimately really good at getting the essence of what makes that particular band special, and he tries to get a band to focus on what they naturally sound like playing in a room. I think it'd be just what they need after the overproduction of the CD-era, BUT, I don't think he'd take the professional step down at this point in his career. For a project of this size? Maybe...
So, yeah, I'd look at him for the producer, provided there was something in his contract that explicitly prohibited him from baking too much peak limiting and dynamic compression into the initial mixes.

I've got a friend out in California who is ecstatic about the release and another with whom I'll be going to get the album tomorrow. This guy is as blue-collar as can be and was a die-hard "classic" GNR fan until their dying day. For years, this guy didn't want to hear word one about anything relating to the new band, and although he came with me on that fateful night in Phily in '02, he's always held resentment towards Axl for destroying the old band. After years of me beating him over the head with it, he finally agreed to listen to a disc I made him of the June leaks.
His initial reaction was "where's the rock?" and "it's not bad." I spoke with him 2 weeks later and he said "I'm kinda digging it." Ever since they announced the release, he's been as geeked out as I am. Told me he used an audio editing program and removed the vocals, so he could focus on the composition and musicianship. Being a guitarist himself, he was floored with what he heard. Loved that there was no "wasted air" in any of the songs. My wife has followed the whole saga as a life-long fan and couldn't be happier with the record. Everyone else I know just kinda scoffs and snorts when I bring it up.

And as far as i know, TWAT has not leaked.
(i laugh everytime someone mentions TWAT and leaking)
Ha ha. Gonna changed my Facebook status to 'Jordan is ecstatic that Twat has leaked in full!'
Now leaked what is the next question.
I think i'll pass on a radio rip.
Please do...with all due respect to the original uploader for both his patience and time, it sounds like shit.

We already know that ron is quoted as saying he recorded "hundreds" of solos. The choice was ultimately Axl's as to what made the final cut, and while I do question his judgment on a few occasions, I have to at least respect that he has his reasons for selecting what he did. The point is that blame shouldn't be laid at the feet of the guitarists.

I hear ya, JordanRose....Point being, if Axl is singing, I'm believing...Everything else is gravy.

The final version of Madagascar on that DutcH site has additional guitar by Ron in the chorus...This does not.

I dont like the extra lyrics on SOD either, It kills the moment when you are screaming into the hairbrush in the morning.
My brush hates when I have to trip over myself nd remind my tongue that there are now words there...Very odd...

I couldn't disagree more about the TIL lyrics. A cliche isn't a cliche when it's completely and obviously sincere.
I can completely relate to the way Axl has seemingly obsessed over Seymour for so long. I know how it feels to believe more than anything that nobody could mean as much to you as this one person who doesn't feel the same. Some people have endless relationships and get married multiple times, for others, people like Axl and myself, the breakdown of one such relationship.marriage is enough to mess you up bad, but to go through it again has a permanent emotional effect on you; you're never quite the same again.
This I Love isn't like some Tim Rice/Jon Bon Jovi made to order, by the numbers love ballad with cliched, empty platitudes; Axl means every single line in the song with every fibre of his being.
Before I'd heard the song once, when I read the lyrics, I knew it was going to be great because I related intensely to them, the same was I do to Twat, IRS, The Blues and Prostitute.
If you don't get/like it, you have to realise that when he sings 'I'd search the universe and find mysrlf in her eyes', he hasn't just knocked those words off like some session writer making a record for Britney Spears. There are times of emotional extremes when such sentiments are the absolute truth.
What a class A post. This guy is good.
