funny stuff...
Tommy Stinson Interview
November 30th, 2011
It must be a relief not to have to answer the dreaded "When is 'Chinese Democracy' coming out?" question anymore.
Tommy Stinson: Yeah! It came out [in 2008]. And it [expletive] got thrown against the wall like an old plate of spaghetti. [laughs]
You don't think "Chinese Democracy" got a fair shake?
Tommy Stinson: Hell no. No record ever gets a real fair shake anyway. It's just one of those things that you live with.
Now everyone is probably asking when the next album is coming out.
Tommy Stinson: Everyone is asking me that question. I don't know. There's talk of doing some recording in the new year, getting some songs together. But that's just talk. Let's get through the tour and see where things end up.
After earning mythic status during its creation, "Chinese Democracy" came and went in the blink of an eye.
Stinson blames record company politics for its lack of promotion, "and I don't think Axl has gotten over that," the Minneapolis native says. He calls the debacle "dumbfounding," but says Axl may not be completely finished with the record. "I think in his head there's still some stuff left to be done," Stinson says. "If what he wants to do happens, it could drag it out for awhile. But we'll see what happens."Looking ahead, Stinson says the hope is to write new songs next year and move forward with GNR, which is nominated for entry into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2012. There are songs left over from the "Chinese Democracy" sessions that are almost ready to go, he says, and could be polished up for potential release.

"Who knows, maybe there will be Chinese Democracy 2," Stinson says. "Who knows?"
Is Rose difficult to deal with?
"Not for me," Stinson says, in between bites of fruit salad a few hours before going on stage at Allstate Arena. "The rest of the free world? Sure."
:haha:

Re: The Tommy Stinson Thread
The "not done with CD" thing was pretty clear during Axl's TMS interview and it made my stomach sink a bit. Everyone is on board for new recording. I hope what DJ says is true, that it's really being considered seriously. I just don't know what else Axl wants to do with CD. rerelease it? Release videos? What exactly does he want to accomplish with CD?
Re: The Tommy Stinson Thread
there may be something in axlin's theory
but it's hard to speculate
it is a valid question mrID asks, "what does he want to accomplish with CD?" & it'd be nice if axl clued the rest of us in on his current vision for Guns.
it does seem it's gonna be dragged out for a while. esp if they are touring europe again next summer..
another good interview by tommy.

Re: The Tommy Stinson Thread
I don't think Axl is hiding behind CD so he doesn't have to release new stuff, especially with how excited he seemed to be with releasing the follow up before CD was released. It's pretty clear that he can't let go of CD because it didn't meet some kind of expectations in his own head. Perhaps he's really hurt, pissed, disturbed the way it was released and feels it wasn't given a fair chance to do better. I actually think it was very well received by the critics and did solid sales numbers. I didn't think he was in that camp in the GN'R fan community that the lack of promotion really stopped it from being huge... I don't know. I seriously have a hard time believing that he wants it to sell millions more and that it still can. I think it might be more personal and that its release really messes with him.
I'd just like to know what else he wants to do with it. And again, if the Doc Mcghee re-release plan was real, which is pretty telling, why didn't he just go with it then? This is pointing more and more to the fact that CD is a much bigger issue with Axl than I ever thought.
Re: The Tommy Stinson Thread
I honestly don't know why Axl was dumbfounded with the way the release was handled. The record company was strung along and fucked over for over a decade on this album and shit load of dollars were spent for no return for yearS. It's hardly surprising that once the best buy deal was done and some dollars recovered they washed their hands of him.
From a commercial perspective why should they have risked spending more dollars promoting it. Axl's previous behavior of refusing to play ball and missed deadlines and promises over the years was hardly endearing behavior. If it was my business I wouldn't have risked any more capital and I would have also dropped CD like a hot potato.

Tommy continuing to rake in the press....nothing new but AGAIN, it goes to show you he is the only name in the band that carries any weight in the industry....and NO DJ isn't nearly on the same level with SixxAm. Tommy is well respected and all the big publications give him press. If anyone in the band should be a spokeperson, outside of Axl, it should be Tommy..... if they actually want respect in the industry.
