Re: Chinese Democracy UNDER 300,000 copies sold first week?
There's nothing so far to prove my arguement but there is nothing to prove me wrong so far.
Which is why I said we should wait and look at the long term sales.
My point is two years from now there will still be unrational Gn'R fans who will say we'll the album has only been out for two years. lets wait and give it time. AFD didn't sell all those albums in two years.
I don't see anything on this album that people will be itching to hear a year from now.
Which people?
The people who listen to radio. The people who go bonkers when Jungle coms on in a bar or at a sporting event. The people who request songs at Christmas parties or in the bar. The people who buy the majoirty of the albums and make up the majority of concert goers. The average Joe. Those people.
That's your Joe and Jill public reaction.
Not exactly a great sample size. I wouldn't read too much into the reaction of two random people.
Sadly from my experience it's not just the reaction of 2 random people. I'm hearing it more and more everyday. If it were the other wya aroudn the sales would be better. Promo or no promo. This album will suffer via word of mouth more so than the other way around.
Re: Chinese Democracy UNDER 300,000 copies sold first week?
well one thing is for sure..the cd sales are better this year than 06 and 07....VR moved like 100,000 of libertad in week one, ozzy 's black rain was like 150,000 first week, megadeth's latest moved only 50,000 in its first week
in the end does it matter? no not really i love all those albums, the only sale that matters to me is the one that i bought

True. I'd say 75% of the cd's I own are by bands nobody(that I know) has even heard of. So whats' it matter really. the only thing sales will tell us is that the public has spoken. Even in todays age sales at least tell us what the public wants. What that matters though is up to the individual I guess.
I'd realy like to know what the album sales would've been though had it been called "Silk Revolver" just kididng. Any name other than Gn'R. My guess is half of what it's done so far.

I'd like to see your polling data on this issue then. I suspect you are just guessing.

And I've heard no less than 75 testimonials from the Manchester Police Department, almost to a man who loved the record. Average janes and joes. But I am not willing to extrapolate a small sampling size data pool and project that the record is better than Thriller.

i dont know anybody who has given CD any kind of review..most people i know are very indifferent to the whle gnr thing, they jsut dont care one way or the other...one thing i do know, GNR has been top of my local station top 9 @ 9 for a while now with CD

All I can say is wow! Gimme a fucking break. My polling data? Stay in denial you'll be happier there. This is what I mean. Everything that doesn't shine a bright light on CD needs actual data to back it up. Where as anything that does glorify the album is proof that it's just marketed poorly. o.k. than.
No less than 75? To a man they love it? sounds real legit. 100% approval rating. Sure

Bottom line. No promo. People are over GNR. Music is not easily accessible, it's from a bygone era. First single not pushed.
But, it doesn't stop me from enjoying it. No one should. Its success or failure in no means affects how I look at CD. I like it. Doesn't mean I'm wrong, just means I still enjoy this style of music.
If sales and chart position and hit singles and industry awards affected my taste in music, then I must be a big fan of the one of the worst, shittiest artists ever: Buckethead. He has no singles, meager sales, even fewer awards and probably has never had an album chart.
Great fuckin' post man! I agree 100% on this. As far as failure I'd say we'll know within two months. James hit it about right on his idea of second and third week numbers and their implications in my opinion. In the end I LIKE the album and that's enough for me. It's not a very weak "UYI III" and that's saying quite a bit. I could take away a couple of songs I really don't like and still have a solid 12 track disc left. Not too shabby. If this album sales more than Contraband I think it did fine, if it sales less it didn't do great. Either way I will enjoy it equally.
Re: Chinese Democracy UNDER 300,000 copies sold first week?
I don't think people are over GnR. I think people are over fake GnR. They want the real thing. CD could have been the greatest album ever and that would still be the case. CD being average just makes it more obvious.

Admit then, you are simply speculating about (and perhaps hoping for) failure.
My mind is open and I am willing to accept failure for multiple reasons, but just not based on 7 days of data.
Wow, I am a liar too, then? Great. Real nice talking with ya.
