Re: If GNR releases nothing in 2023, is this the end for you?
For me, I don’t think it’s that big of a deal releasing Absurd and Hardskool. I’m not getting finicky at this point. Playing CD and VR songs is kinda lame though.
I don’t think playing CD and VR songs are lame, I just think when they play them, they are treating them as the equal of new music. That’s lame. Like this tour you’re busting out Street of Dreams and Prostitute when you actually, obviously, have something “new” in the can with Perhaps. Why?

Because if ticket sales miraculously pick up before the US leg starts, they don't have to release any songs...and will continue the status quo.
It's why I've been saying empty US stadiums is the only chance we have to actually get any of the 2-4 songs we're waiting on.

I view Slash's comments about not knowing how to release in conjunction with Axl's comments about streaming royalties at the 2016 China Exchange interview.
It's not that they can't release, of course they can hire a million experts to manage that if they need it, it's that the whole industry model these days doesn't really require them to release anything or really reward them particularly for doing so.
They make their money touring, at this stage it's a legacy act and new albums from legacy acts revitalise the fans a bit but are not essential. Most fans are there for the classics and will go anyway.
Aerosmith basically said the same thing after "Music From Another Dimension" didn't meet their expectations financially - it's just not worth the drama and heartache of making an album if it causes band stress, then half the audience dismisses it immediately because it's not Toys in the Attic or whatever, and then they don't get paid the way they used to.
I suspect GNR doesn't want to empty it's vaults just to make other people money, however, I hope they will release stuff just because THEY are proud of it and want it out there.
I remember when Absurd and Hardskool premiered and Axl seemed to be really into it. Sure the single didn't reinvent music history but we liked it, and they liked it. I hope they release more on that basis. I hope if they continue to make a fortune touring it encourages that stance too - because they won't need the music to make economic sense to release - it can be released just for fun.

I believe the story has been removed from the site which could mean a number of things https://classicrock.net/guns-n-roses-fr … ark-03-07/
But my guess outside of Perhaps by itself is maybe a Live Glastonbury album with Perhaps and maybe The General as bonus tracks.

The irony.
You know who IS selling out stadiums? And just released her SIXTH album since 2019?
Taylor f’ing Swift. She wipes the floor with Axl in terms of bullheaded determination and generosity when it comes to sharing her talent as a songwriter.
Totally different style, of course. But for her to just drop 22 new studio recordings in the middle of the best-selling concert tour of all time (which is to say she didn’t NEED any extra publicity) … while we are crossing our fingers for two songs?
Ridiculous. Again, I agree with James. GnR need to pony up some music because in 2023 they are losing fans and relevancy.

Also a bunch of those albums are the (Taylor's Version) ones, aren't they? Which are just re-recordings of old material.

Three are re-recordings, but what about the re-recorded Appetite? Why didn’t we ever get that?
Or any of the many UYI demos and outtakes that we know of from bootlegs that were not released on the box sets?
Swift is releasing new music like crazy. Plus she releases remixes on streaming services (I looked them up). Where are the GnR Brain remixes?
Swift is a prolific artist in a way I wish Axl would be. She seems to love sharing her music, and won’t let anything stop her. Yes, Axl went through hell trying to release ChiDem but Swift had her own record company hassles which is why she is re-recording her early albums. She hasn’t had an easy time. She is just (apparently) more resourceful and persistent than he is.
He is one of the best artists of his generation. He has amazing human insights to share in his work. He should be as relevant in 2023 as Taylor Swift is but looking only to the past and not releasing new stuff gets in the way.

Hell Freezes Over all over again.
If this is the strategy...it should've been released the first year of the reunion just like Hell Freezes Over.
Whatever it is....I'll take it.
