Re: MrBallen youtube channel
I can't watch channels like this...and there's shit tons of them. Might not be fair to judge on one video, but it's basically just a guy who reads wiki or some other site, whips up videos, and somehow got lucky enough for his channel to take off.
I like true crime but I either read books or watch professionally made programs.
These platforms need some type of reform. The click bait shit really needs to go...and so do the channels where the person is just reading tweets.
When the Ukraine war started, on Reddit a bunch of people kept spamming some guys YouTube link. I finally clicked on it out of curiosity...and holy shit....
It was some dipshit who was literally doing nothing but reading Twitter and yelling "Breaking News!!!" every 60 seconds.
What made me want to scream is the fact he had thousands following his live chat/feed and an ungodly amount of subscribers.
The dude was getting rich reading Twitter. He probably laughs at the stupidity of his own followers....I know I did.
Even he is a dime a dozen. As I'm sure polluxlm knows, the conspiracy communities are now dominated by these types...one of the reasons I bailed.
I usually only watch old wrestling, some old TV shows that might not be on the other platforms, news from European countries (France, Germany, and Britain), a couple space related channels, retro commercials, food, and a few others.
My favorite channels....

YouTube was so much better when it didn't revolve around everyone wanting to become an influencer and get rich.
Re: MrBallen youtube channel
The reason I like this channel is because he's very good at laying the story out in an entertaining way, and he finds stories that may not be spectacular, but unique and interesting in their own way. A typical story he does is "teen gets electrocuted while drunk". You read that in the paper and you think "whatever", but he manages to turn it into a ten minute video where he keeps you on the edge of your seat because of the presentation.
I think that's why he blew up. He's got that little bit of extra that separates him from the pack. Like all these interrogation videos that are copying JCL.
The other channel I really like is Historia Civilis. He only uploads every 3 months or so, but if you like history he presents it in an amazing way. I've read a bunch of books about Caesar but it was not until seeing his videos that I got to see the army movements in a clear way. You read a book and you hear all these place names and you don't know where they are, and it's hard to get a picture in your mind about what is happening.
If they employed these techniques in school, learning would go through the roof.
Conspiracy documentaries were much better when they were funded by the CIA.
