Re: David Lee Roth retires
Sounds like it's health related, and pretty serious. But it's hard to tell with Roth. Sad day.

Re: David Lee Roth retires
Glad I got to see Roth with Van Halen back in 2013. What a night that was - Stone Music festival in Australia, Van Halen co-headlining with Aerosmith, and Matt Sorum’s Kings of Chaos on the bill too.
Hope he’s ok, but he’s implying that he’s not in the best of health either.

That's very sad, does kinda allude to cancer.
Thoughts are with him and his family.

Re: David Lee Roth retires
Glad I got to see him on the last Van Halen tour. He was supposed to headline with Kiss last summer, but COVID fucked that. One of the greatest frontmen ever. Glad to see him leave with some dignity.
Re: David Lee Roth retires
End of an era...and I'll cry like a baby when he dies.
Before I got into GNR in 87, Roth/VH and Jovi were my favorite bands. Eat Em and Smile was THE album of 86.
Skyscraper was half killer, half filler. I was already into GNR at that point but it stayed in my rotation for a few months.
He lost me with A Little Ain't Enough.... literally. I never bought another Roth album.
I'll never forget when Jump came out. I'd spend the night at my grandma's and my uncle and I would stay up all night waiting for the Jump video to come on. We'd freak out like schoolgirls as soon as they played it.
He let his ego get in the way and it altered his career. He thought he would be a movie star and while that ''Dave TV' concept was fun for a few videos, no way in hell was that movie gonna get the green light.
At least he had one killer solo album in him.
There will never be another Diamond Dave.
Re: David Lee Roth retires
Another thing about Dave...
Don't remember the full story...I think he blamed his manager/agent....but it was a collosal fuck up turning down the request for Just Like Paradise to be the theme song for Beverly Hills 90210.
His career had just went into permanent decline with A Little Ain't Enough bombing and of course the music world moving on without him (grunge, alternative, rap). Having the theme song for a massive TV show might have quickly resurrected his career and put him back on pop culture's map.
Re: David Lee Roth retires
I never knew the Beverly Hills 90210 story. It probably would ahve gone over well. He has become as synonymous with California as the Beach Boys (the remake of "California Girls" only solidified that). It could have kept him in the spotlight.
Anyone get the sense he had a difficult relationship with his dad? He posted a childhood photo of the two of them together on Twitter. I can't help but wonder if his entire life has been a matter of trying to live up to his father's expectations.

Re: David Lee Roth retires
Roth cancels his retirement shows due to Covid. A lot of pissed off fans...many who flew across the country for it.
In all fairness, Vegas fucking sucks right now and I can only assume it's gotten worse since the 3 months I was there. A mask is required if you're inside any building, and how strict they are depends on your dealer and casino. One dealer wanted me to put my mask up after every puff of my cigarette, others didn't care at all so long as you had a drink or cigarette in your hand. My buddy (admittedly approaching the line of asshole) was almost thrown out of Penn and Teller for keeping his mask under his nose between sips of his drink. If they're enforcing distancing and vaccines (again, depends on location) I can certainly understand why Roth wouldn't want to waste his time getting half the paycheck they waived in front of him before he signed.
