I read Bucket re-recorded Oklahoma at some point?
So those or these are Finck mostly on guitar?
Wasn’t there a theory that Hardschool was also Jackie Chan recorded for a movie by Slash/Duff?
Bucket probably did re-record Oklahoma. Just not on this version. Any of the tracks dated March are just mixes of tracks the previous year.
Everything with vocals here seem to be from summer 99 at least. Bucket didn't meet axl till xmas 99 and Finck left the band in August 99 for a while.
So unless it's dated mid 00 or later (like hardschool for example) it's likely not Bucket.
Oklahoma was a finished track by the end of 2000, it was on the original House of Blues set list, but not played. It also got renamed Berlin at some point over the next few years.
Also Oklahoma probably existed in an even earlier version in the late 90s. Very possible Slash or Duff played on the original/unfinished version (not on on these discs).
One of the last songs by the band before Slash left was meant to be on the ost of a Jackie Chan film. We don't know much about it. It is possible that it's Hardschool/Checkmate that Axl once called Jackie Chan, but have no idea. It might be completely concidental or not. Either way I think Bucket is likely on this mix of the track doing the shredding.
Worth pointing out too, this is 20 years old. The Hardschool that's on the current setlists as an alternative, might sound radically different.

So a lot of this stuff is really the Beavan record.
But there’s obvious Bucket additions and stand alone instrumental tracks like Elvis.
Fortus was talking about still working on a Slash riff. Hardschool is a suspect.

I was on a trip and missed the last few rounds.
Thank God Oklahoma survived the onslaught.
Have to vote State of Grace. It's a low grade NIN ripoff and it's not even finished and was probably abandoned.
Who is on Guitar here? If I close my eyes it’s Slash. They are very Slash parts, is that Bucket?
The more I hear it, the more I think we're hearing a near finished track created during that odd 95-98 period which would put Slash and Duff in the mix.
I also think this is one of the three songs Slash would've been on the album had he 'apologized' to Axl. He wasn't going to bring him into the studio to work on three new tracks.....he's already on them.
This song is the creme de la creme...the very definition of A list. There has to be a damn good reason it was quickly dropped as a CD candidate until resurrected years later as Berlin.
Only reason good enough IMO is the track contains people who aren't in the band anymore.

But who knows, Shadow and Crash Diet got passed over at some point.
Hardschool seems right up Slash’s street though. Maybe Finck was laying down Slash style parts. It must be easy for musicians to just play some GNR music then just improvise on it and get something in the same vein.
Slight off topic since it's not on this disc, but I feel the same way about Quick Song. Felt fairly Slash-esque to me aside from the stuff in a 5/4 time signature (the intro/bridge/outro parts, basically).

True it’s a cycle riff. The nu band guys like Brain and Finck did hint they were aware of what GNR was meant to be. So they got in character and listened to AFD and threw down some ideas. To me Chi dem verse guitar is very Slash. It’s basically a remake of Jungle verses, mixed with Easy low talking.
If you go conspiracy, then maybe Axl had Slash riffs on tape even tracks. Around 00 Rock in Rio he offered Slash 3 songs on CD. Could these hard rock songs have been allocated to Slash? Find out soon on that click bait site that steals all my posts.

Very cyclical riffing too. Some of the band members hinted they knew they were in GNR. Soloing as Axl rants is very GNR too.

He did write the chorus riff on Better though. And seems included in Slash quotes on who is working on the next album.
I remember a version of Heavens door Axl and Fortus did live that really showed how tight Axl was with Fortus. Not just giving him an ass pat like DJ but really working with Fortus on this Neil Young style Heavens Door version. Ron did a whole album for Guns, Dj did 12 demos, all seem passed over for Fortus who said he was working on a Slash riff before the reunion happened. I’d say he inner circle.
