Re: US Politics Thread
Europe hasn’t mattered since 1945. They’re the ones who fucked up the Middle East when France and the UK drew up arbitrary borders that created the nations we all know and love in the 1920s. Reminder: Iraq, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Iran - didn’t exist until the Europeans decided they did. Just like we did with Israel.
Omg the middle east has always been fucked up....the European solution didn't solve it. That doesn't mean that things weren't already fucked up.
If Trump and Xi can bring NK into the 21st century, go for it. If we can do the same with Iran, go for it. But European diplomacy and appeasement is shit. Their mantra has been to bury their heads in the sand since Chamberlain. How many examples do you need to demonstrate doing nothing and “hoping” make things worse.
This is a very revised version of history...even as late as 1941, the majority of US citizens were against joining WW2. They needed pearl harbor to give a shit. The prevailing thought was, 'let Europe deal with its own problems.' This is hardly good guy behavior. The white washing of what happened in WW2 is a big part of the problem. Sure...when we decided to get involved, we were difference makers. We only got involved when we were directly impacted.
The other thing is that by the time the US got involved in WW2, 10s of millions of Russians and Europeans had already died at the hands of Germany. Who has Iran attacked?
Obama tried European style diplomacy. It resulted in Russia grabbing the Ukraine and Georgia. China building islands to expand their control, and the Middle East falling to chaos. Egypt, Libya, Syria and Iraq anyone?
Is that really the US's job? To make sure everyone gets to keep their countries and territories because the US said so? If so, we sure pick and choose which situations we will and won't get involved in.
We all want to live in Star Trek’s 24th century utopia. But some people are going to have to die to make that happen. Just like every other major advancement in human history. WW2 didn’t end over a nice steak dinner. It ended with the destruction of Berlin and two atom bombs dropped on Japan. Who’s better off now? Eastern Germany or Japan.
I'm sorry...I just flat out disagree with this. It is precisely these reasons that war should be avoided at all costs. This analysis requires me to believe that human life has no value and death and war are inevitable. So long as we consider world war an option, 24th century star trek utopia is not possible.
Re: US Politics Thread
Has anyone considered the porn star’s lawyer is being paid by a bad actor? Stormy isn’t paying him. And now he’s releasing documents he has no legal access to. Is this another Steele dossier being funded through political opponents? Who’s paying the bills here?
If you believe Russia is attacking the US to undermine our elections, you have to consider the possibility they’re still doing so. I firmly believe the entire Steele dossier was Russian propaganda. But if you believe they’re still active, they’re going to be provoking the types who believe conspiracy theories and piss tapes and collusion certainly fit that mold. I think Avenatti should disclose who’s supplying him with his “intel” and paying his fees.
I don't know exactly what I believe...or moreover who to believe. But if you're asking me to trust Trump or believe Trump, then that would really make me a fool.
Trump has as much credibility as Russia to me and that's why it gets so foggy. I'm not supposed to believe the FBI or the CIA but I am supposed to believe Trump? I'm not supposed to believe that Russia influenced our elections and believe Trump?
Trump completely lacks of integrity and I have no reason to believe him any more or less than anyone else.

He was asked if he's charging her for all this new work and he snapped. At an MSNBC host!

So we have no idea. A crowd raiser allows for anyone, anywhere to contribute.
It took awhile to prove Clinton funded the Steele dossier too. And he hasn’t answered how he’s illegally gaining these financial documents.

It wasn't just Clinton...you seem to forget the origin.

But it was. Yes, someone in the GOP contacted Fusion GPS early in the primary. But the Steele dossier was entirely funded by the DNC.
People that try to pretend it wasn’t and toss in GOP financing are being dishonest and trying to imply that it wasn’t partisan. Feel free to verify my claim, but you’ll find that everything related to the Steele dossier was entirely funded by Clinton and the DNC. Claims of joint funding are said only to be intellectually dishonest and hope people (just like you’ve done) stop asking questions and make the assumption you made.
Re: US Politics Thread
I believe it was a Bush group that started the dossier, right?
I think it was Rubio...or someone on his behalf...
I feel the distinctions your making Flagg is a minor one...it seems pretty obvious that the foundation was at least built for the purposes of hurting Trump during the Republican primaries. It was initially started by Trump's opponent(s). What details were discovered when and paid for by whom is not terribly relevant in my opinion.

They started the opposition research with fusion gps. Steele and his dossier were entirely Clinton. And the FBI and DNC failed to make that known at the start, creating an echo chamber that any of it had been substantiated. They were so successful that a lot of people (as this discussion shows) are completely unaware that the dossier was an entirely partisan effort fed with intel from Russian intelligence.
