Re: M.I.A. - Bring the Noize
I thought you gave up on her after that abysmal second album?
Third album. Kala(her 2nd album) is one of the greatest albums ever made. This new song sucks obviously but what really blows my mind is she's working with diplo again and he was the one who admitted her whole career, specifically the whole kick ass rebel thing she had going years ago was fabricated. To work with him again just reinforces his point. She has no ideas of her own other than artwork and needs diplo and switch to come up with the material. If the album is good, its good but I think she peaked at Kala and its a permanent downward spiral from here on out.
BTW, during my 'vacation' from the internet she released an autobiography that I need to check out.
Re: M.I.A. - Bring the Noize
At this point, ALL musical rebel things are fabricated. Everything is commercially built to sell, and honestly there really are no wild cards anymore like Axl, that just do not fucking care what the industry tells them to do. Some of these artists from that era, like GN'R or Nirvana getting HOF nods, have unearthed how it used to be in a way where some of these guys just truly didn't give a fuck.
I don't know where those guys or girls went. The industry just doesn't have them anymore. I think if MIA had been for real as a rebel, or even somewhat of a bad ass-er in real life, in this generation? She'd probably be labeled a bully and barred from the industry, regardless of the quality of music.
It's so dis-interesting to me now. The best artists are on fucking SoundCloud.
